Ireland make one change with seam bowling all-rounder Alex Cusack replacing young spinner Andy McBrine.

With the Gabba traditionally favouring seam over spin, the UAE make a similar change, bringing in left-arm seamer Manjula Guruge for off-spinner Nasir Aziz.

  2. Captain's viewpublished at 03:09 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir, aged 43: "We wanted to bat first. It's a good toss to lose. It's hot and humid and it's good to be batting first.

"Batting 50 overs is just the basics and we need to put the runs on the board and put them under pressure. We need to play some good, positive cricket."

  3. Captain's viewpublished at 03:06 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Ireland captain William Porterfield: "We think it's going to be a belter of a pitch throughout the day, so we think there might be a bit of humidity and swing early on. We're quite confident with the ball. If we're favourites for this game on paper so be it, but we've got to put on a performance and it'd be nice to leave here with two wins from two."

  4. Toss newspublished at 03:03 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

A warm welcome to Day 12 of the World Cup, and it's been a bit of a wait for Ireland, who saw off West Indies in their opening game - nine days ago.

Today's opponents - meeting Ireland for the first time in an ODI - are the United Arab Emirates, who were beaten by Zimbabwe in their only game so far. On paper, they are the side least expected to cause an upset at this tournament. But apparently cricket's not played on paper - here's the toss from Brisbane...

Morning, everyone. If a week is a long time in cricket, then eight years must seem like a lifetime. It's a shade under eight years since Ireland arrived at the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, and surprised everyone by tieing with Zimbabwe and beating Pakistan on the way to the Super Eight stage.

I heard on TMS the other day that 13 of that 15-man Ireland squad were amateurs. Now they're all fully professional, with central contracts in place, and looking to crack the glass ceiling above "Associate" cricket.
