  2. UAE 131-6 (Anwar 28*, Javed 0*)published at 06:01 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

The tall Amjad Javed, who hails from Dubai, is the UAE's number eight - he made his highest ODI score in their last game against Zimbabwe, an unbeaten 25 from 19 balls. The right-hander rears away from a lifter from Cusack, who has 1-23 from seven overs.

"This is pretty awful batting. The two slips have been put in and it's a fairly obvious game plan from Ireland. If you've seen teams warming up and the coach nicks it to fielders for catching, he's played the exact shot."

Brisbane-born Cusack has his first wicket - the unconvincing Mustafa, who's been an outside edge waiting to happen, finally nicks one to the keeper Gary Wilson as he's been threatening to for the last couple of overs.

Dockrell, inscrutable behind his sunglasses, keeps Anwar tied down for four dot balls before spinning down a legside wide - while Anwar gets a quiet word from the umpire for running down the middle of the pitch. Time for drinks.

  9. UAE 128-5 (Anwar 26*, Mustafa 2*)published at 05:49 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Left-hander Mustafa hangs his bat out at Cusack, who has a first slip posted for such a little dab - but though he doesn't make contact, Ireland's response is to bring in a second slip. Another flash outside off stump just whistles past the edge - and when Cusack finally finds the edge, the ball scoots past second slip and they run two. How frustrating must that be for a captain.

"His foot is outside the line, he is a long way down but it hit him in line. There must be 2% of that ball hitting the top of leg stump. This is so harsh for the batsman. He's trudging off - he's not too happy and I'm with him there."

It hits him on the knee-roll, he's got a decent stride in, but it's "umpire's call" for hitting the very top of the leg stump... so Khurram goes.

  15. UAE 122-4published at 05:38 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

A double change in the bowling as Alex Cusack replaces fellow seamer Sorensen - and the UAE finally show some aggression as Anwar comes down the track and heaves the medium-pacer for four over long-on - the first boundary for eight overs. This stand is worth 44.

Indeed, it's slow left-armer Dockrell into the attack, just as Graeme Swann takes the TMS summariser's chair - and like Swann used to, young Dockrell (still only 22) will bowl with his sunglasses on. A tidy enough first over, but the UAE easily milk him for ones and twos.

"You didn't have a doosra?" Swann is asked on TMS. "No, I bowled with a straight arm," he retorts.

"What a good spell it was from Paul Stirling. Off-spinners are the future, the past and the present of cricket. But McBrine, who was left out, is a better bowler than Stirling, so Ireland could have saved themselves 30 or 40 runs."

  20. UAE 109-4published at 05:29 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Some more tremendous fielding from Ireland keeps the UAE on their toes as two fielders swoop in the infield, one flicks the ball to the other and the Emirates pair don't dare risk a single. Left-hander Khurram Khan and right-hander Shaiman Anwar dab a few careful singles - and spinner George Dockrell is warming up in the outfield, it looks as if he'll be replacing Stirling.
