  1. UAE 69-2published at 04:49 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Thoughts of drinks (and cartwheels) aside - it's time for the game to resume - Amjad and Khurram, two experienced campaigners with a combined age of 78, hustle a couple of twos from Stirling's fifth over.

While the drinks are glugged down, former Australia pace bowler Andy Bichel is reminiscing on TMS about his time in county cricket, when he played for Worcestershire, Hampshire and Essex. Those of us who were there can't think back to the 2005 C&G final at Lord's without remembering the famous Bichel cartwheel celebration.

  3. Fewer teams in the World Cup?published at 04:45 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

For those who don't know about the 10-team World Cup issue, the International Cricket Council will reduce the number of teams from 14 to 10 for the 2019 tournament in England.

The 10 teams will be made up of the top eight in the ICC rankings plus two teams from a qualifying event to be held in Bangladesh in 2018.

Associate sides such as Ireland and the UAE aren't too happy about it, with Ireland batsman Ed Joyce saying: "I wholeheartedly disagree with the reasons for that.

"I do not think it is the way a sport should be run, especially one that speaks about expanding and trying to get bigger."

"Five or six blokes ran in and put some pressure on Nigel. But nothing from the brains trust of Ireland to review that."

  5. Drinks breakpublished at 04:44 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

A huge appeal from Mooney, raising both arms and bouncing up and down as Khurram is rapped on the pad - but English umpire Nigel Llong shakes his head and waves the drinks cart on.

  7. Appeal - not outpublished at 04:38 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Stirling has the scent of a third wicket, appealing for lbw as Amjad reverse-sweeps again, but after three overs without a boundary, Khurram - who works in the airline industry - leans forward and unleashes a cover-driven four.

  9. UAE 55-2 (Amjad 37*, Khurram 2*)published at 04:35 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

We've had Karate and The Crane, now it's time for The Headband again. Having made that double breakthrough, Ireland turn back to opening bowler John Mooney, going round the wicket to the two left-handers. He seems to have found his rhythm from that angle, just a single from the over.

  10. Appeal - not outpublished at 04:32 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Former skipper and current vice-captain Khurram Khan is the new batsman so we have two left-handers at the crease. Khurram is one of the true veterans of the tournament at the age of 43 - and he nearly loses his partner as Amjad tries to flick Stirling to leg, the ball flies up off something (pad? bat?) and there's a big appeal but the umpire is unmoved.

"O'Brien juggled it, completed the catch, then did the crane. That's a bit harsh doing when he's out - he should do that on his way to the wicket. There's no defence to the crane, or so Mr Miyagi told us."

Stirling strikes again - Karate chops the ball to slip and departs for a duck! A delighted Kevin O'Brien takes the catch and shows his knowledge of the iconic 1980s film "The Karate Kid" by doing "The Crane" pose from that movie. Stirling has figures of 2-2 from 13 balls.

  13. UAE 53-1published at 04:26 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Cusack drops one too short to Amjad, who swivel-pulls it for four and there's a smattering of applause as the total passes 50.

"Ireland's win against West Indies in their opening World Cup game made their overall one-day international record a positive one - they have now won 42 matches and lost 41."

  15. UAE 49-1 (Amjad 33*, Chandran 0*)published at 04:23 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

The new batsman is Krishna Chandran - who, to the delight of TMS's Graeme Swann, is also known as Krishna Karate (the name on the back of his shirt). Hailing from Kerala in India, he's even had to stress to the press that despite his name, he is not an advocate of martial arts.

"He was absolutely livid with himself - he took that massive swipe with the bat after he was out. He should be annoyed because he's hit the fielders more than you'd think is possible for an opening batsman. He has given Paul Stirling the easiest wicket."

  17. WICKETpublished at 04:19 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2015

Finally Ireland make the breakthrough as Berenger flicks Stirling straight to mid-wicket where captain William Porterfield takes one of the more straightforward catches of his career. The batsman looks suitably annoyed with himself.

Cusack the carpenter tries to cut Amjad down to size with a bouncer, but it's signalled as an aerial wide by the umpire. Otherwise, the medium-pacer seems to have dried up the runs more than the opening bowlers - his three overs have only cost nine.
