"Great captaincy and a stupid shot with 30 overs to go. I can't defend that. McCullum set two guys on the drive and he has tried to hit that on the up."
I asked if Michael Clarke could be the hero. The answer: an emphatic no. He picks out Kane Williamson at short cover with a drive and is trudging off the field. Mitchell Johnson is coming in, a lot earlier than he or anyone would have expected.
It has gone from 80-1 to 97-6. But good news Australia fans. You've reached 100. Suddenly England's eight-wicket hammering at the hands of New Zealand is not looking as bad as it did.
Brad Haddin angles one fine down the leg side for four to bring up the 100 in the best shot of the 19th over.
Martyn Hearne:, external The Black Caps bowling attack are showing that they are right up there with the best in the world.
The Eden Park crowd is on their feet after that over from Trent Boult, which earned him two wickets. Brad Haddin is the new man in. But there is still work for New Zealand to do here. Michael Clarke to be the hero? Or is that too much of a fairytale return for the captain?

"Hurry up, get them all padded up. It will be all over by dinner time.
"Another one - playing another defensive shot, going across him. Shall I leave it, shall I not?"
Would you believe it? Another one goes - in almost identical fashion. Boult has two in three balls as Mitchell Marsh - we didn't even get time to introduce him - plays away from his body and inside edges on to the stumps. Incredible scenes. New Zealand rampant and the crowd delirious.

"He's playing away from his body, I don't know what you call that.
"All those early runs, they don't count for anything when you've got five down for nowt. This is an amazing turnaround."
From 80-1 to 96-5. It is an awful shot from Glenn Mawell. It is wide off stump, but Maxwell mistimes it and can only chop the ball violently back on to his stumps.
Glenn Maxwell is the next man in for Australia and instantly gets off the mark, pushing a single down to long on.

"Beautifully bowled. If anyone deserves some success, it's Vettori. His changes are so subtle - he just uses the crease and changes his pace.
"You're seeing an artist bowling spin, against the favourites, on a flat pitch, in a one-day game, and you're thinking 'they'll pummel him'. Let me tell you - he's pummelling them."
What a remarkable turnaround after a sensational start for Australia. It is another wicket for Daniel Vettori. And another wicket for New Zealand. With Luke Ronchi standing up behind the stumps, he collects a big nick from Smith. And Australia are wobbling.
Some much-needed runs for Michael Clarke in the 16th over. A lovely cover drive for two shows he must not be as rusty as New Zealand would be hoping for. He then follows that up with a flick off his legs to the square leg boundary for four.
Scott Lennon:, external Perfect two men for the situation at the crease for Australia. If anyone can build an innings - with a solid base - it's these two.
An absolutely brilliant spell of tight bowling from the veteran Vettori. Only two singles come from the over. Vettori's five overs have only cost 15 runs.
Allan Border is worried about Michael Clarke's lack of match practice as he has missed the last 10 ODIs for Australia. His last international match was the first Test against India in December. Although he did score 128 in that match.

"I'm a bit concerned by Clarke's lack of match play - that's my only issue. We know what a world-class player he is and he has been working diligently to get himself fit."

"Southee hasn't got much swing - he's been all over. He's got two wickets and a catch and he hasn't got anything right. If you can get wickets, it's priceless."
Tim Southee has had an eventful day. His five overs have nearly cost nine each, but he has two huge wickets, and also one catch to his name. Smith takes three, Clarke two off the last three balls of Southee's over.
