"It's noticeable how unathletic some of the UAE fielders are, they have a lot of men in their mid-30s and I think it's going to cost them."

  2. Pak 88-1 (Shehzad 41, Haris 38)published at 02:31 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Nice bit of scoop sweep action from Shehzad as he continues to pick the gaps in the field off Tauqir. UAE fielders being given plenty to chase here at the moment.

The NZ promotion where spectators can win a share of a million dollars by catching a six one-handed while wearing a brewery's promotional orange T-shirt has been a feature of this World Cup, and Charles has a plan:

"If you're taking part in 'Catch a Million', you're probably best coming to one of these games where there aren't many people in. There's probably only a couple of hundred people on the grassy banks today, so you'll have time and space to set yourself up for the catch. If you're in a packed ground with thousands of people, your chances will be a lot less."

  4. Pak 85-1 (Shehzad 39, Haris 37)published at 02:28 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

The sound of Eddy Grant's Electric Avenue breaks out on the McLean Park speakers after another over of clever strike rotation from Shehzad and Haris. Pakistan building a strong platform for this innings.

  5. Pak 80-1 (Shehzad 35, Haris 36)published at 02:24 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Tauqir rattles through another over in quick time, but Pakistan also pick up five runs from the over with the field now well spread.

"For that six, the ball landed over the boundary and made a divot - it didn't move a lot after that, so when the fielder picked the ball up, there was mud on it. He made to clean it and the umpire made a 'no-no' gesture. Wiping it on the grass out there is hardly going to scuff it up."

  7. Six from Ahmed Shehzadpublished at 02:20 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Another steady spell of bowling from Amjad Javed is spoiled as Shehzad advances down the track and drives an impressive shot for six to the straight boundary for the first maximum of the day. Javed can only turn his head and watch it sail all the way as he completes his follow through.

"Pakistan have got some batting power to add down the order, but Ahmed Shehzad and Haris Sohail are doing well for now. I think the UAE need to create some real pressure in the field to limit the number of runs - just as we've seen McCullum do for New Zealand, or the Australian captain do. You've got to have faith in your bowlers."

Seems my "on paper" comment a bit earlier (see 10 overs) has got a few of you on Twitter pulling out copies of the current Pool B table to prove me wrong.

Yes, yes, I appreciate where you're coming from. What I meant was signs of the difference in discipline between a Test playing nation and an Associate member. If you're going to cause an upset in these games as a side like UAE, you really need to take those chances when they come. Four runs added meanwhile from Tauqir's second over of off spin.

"Kiwis love a rule. They never, ever cross the road with the help of the green man, I was told off in Wellington for straying the wrong side of a bollard and I've just been prevented from walking behind the sightscreen despite being in no danger of disrupting the game. Did the punk movement make it to New Zealand?"

  11. Drinks breakpublished at 02:12 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

A better over from Amjad Javed this time as he makes up for a sloppy start. Not much happening with chances or streaky shots in the last few overs after a few risky moments earlier on for Pakistan as these two look like they've settled in for the duration. Time for a drinks break.

  13. Pak 62-1 (Shehzad 24, Haris 29)published at 02:06 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir brings himself on to bowl with his off breaks. Shehzad and Haris tick their partnership up to 50 with some easy singles.

"Pakistan have recovered nicely here, they've nearly got their run rate up to five an over, their two incumbent batsmen look comfortable, Naveed has bowled well from the City End but he can't bowl all day and he's taking a rest now after six overs."

  15. Pak 58-1 (Shehzad 21, Haris 28)published at 02:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

First change of bowling for UAE and it's Amjad Javed with his right-arm medium pace. The all-rounder's also contributed a couple of handy knocks down the order so far for his side in this World Cup. A hint of early shape back in to the left-handed Haris, but he picks up a boundary from a neat push drive down the ground for four and another as Javed strays too far down leg and is glanced for four more to fine leg. Pakistan starting to tick over nicely now.

Anthony Shaw: The two teams I was rooting for were England and Pakistan. Can't help but think maybe I'm bad luck. Not much to cheer. If we had England batting and Pakistan bowling we'd have a pretty decent side...

  17. Pak 46-1 (Shehzad 21, Haris 18)published at 01:56 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

The right-arm Mohammad Naveed continues into his sixth over and he catches Shehzad out a touch as he gets on to a pull shot too early. Thankfully for the right-hander, the ball falls safe on the leg side. More steady accumulation from this Pakistan pair.

  20. Pak 41-1 (Shehzad 20, Haris 14)published at 01:50 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Signs starting to creep in of the difference on paper in class between these two sides. A couple of dropped catches from UAE and for the first time, some sloppy deliveries from the bowlers. Shehzad tucks in to a loose ball down the leg side from Guruge for a simple four and then comes down the pitch to loft the ball over the infield. There's a long chase for the fielder back from mid-off, but he can't quite stop the ball from rolling on to the rope. End of the mandatory powerplay.
