"That ball was begging to be hit. Majula Guruge was bowling a good line and length until then, but spoilt it with that gift ball."

  2. Pak 7-0 (Jamshed 1, Shehzad 5)published at 01:11 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Left-arm seamer Manjula Guruge opens up for UAE from the other end. A pretty steady approach to the crease, by no means anywhere near nippy in pace. Shehzad tucks in to a short ball outside off stump and picks up the first boundary of the day with a dismissive pull shot for four.

"The pitch looks brown, with good carry, as it normally is at McLean Park. I can't see any worries with it. Pakistan haven't really got going with the bat they haven't had good starts and will be nervous about their opening partnerships. I think that's why UAE wanted to bowl first."

  4. Pak 3-0 (UAE won toss)published at 01:07 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

A sedate start to proceedings for the first over. Fair to say, it's not exactly a packed house as Bryan Waddle alludes to. Steady enough start from Naveed, despite a wide, as he beats the bat of Jamshed with the final ball.

    Napier

"Welcome to Napier, a city completely rebuilt in Art Deco style after a huge earthquake in 1931. Think Boardwalk Empire, just without the crime. This picture of the local theatre gives you an idea of the style. As for our venue, McLean Park is really a rugby ground, providing familiar issues with its dimensions. One square boundary is about 50m, so spectators in that stand are advised to wear hard hats."

Looking like a fair amount of scattered cloud above in Napier, but no sign thankfully of any threat of rain.

  11. Captain's viewpublished at 00:54 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq: "In the last two games we played here, it was a very good batting pitch, so it's a good chance for our batsmen to get back some form. Every game is important, we have to win every game from here, be more professional in batting, bowling and especially fielding."

Pakistan suffered heavy defeats by India and West Indies before sneaking past Zimbabwe. So far, their top order has struggled to fire. The team set a new record for the worst start in ODIs when they slumped to 1-4 against West Indies and were 4-2 against Zimbabwe.

"From now on we have to play every game as if it was a knock out match," said captain Misbah. "I think the top order is always the key, and if we really want to go further in this World Cup, we have to improve that."

  14. Landlords v tenantspublished at 00:49 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

Today's match pits Pakistan against the country that has become their home for matches in recent years - United Arab Emirates.

The two teams have met twice previously in ODIs - in 1994 and at the 1996 World Cup - with Pakistan winning both by nine wickets.

"Group B, after India and South Africa at the top, is turning out to be quite a little jam in the middle of the table. You'd think Pakistan would hope to win today to move up to four points, and also improve their net run rate."

As you'll see, these two sides occupy the bottom two places, but a win for Pakistan could make things very interesting in the chase for those all important quarter-final spots.

  20. UAE win the tosspublished at 00:35 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2015

UAE have won the toss and elected to bowl.

Captain Mohammad Tauqir says he likes the look of the pitch and the overhead conditions and hopes his bowlers can exploit them.

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq doesn't appear too bothered at losing out and being put in first as that's what he would've done had he won the toss.
