  1. Not outpublished at 23:54 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

...but it's not out, and Shenwari ran an overthrow after the ball rebounded.

And with the game having woken up a little from Afghanistan's perspective, it's time for Jonathan Jurejko to talk you through the rest of their innings.

  2. Third umpirepublished at 23:53 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Having carefully accumulated 15 from his first 36 balls, Shenwari joins in the fun, crashing a four through the covers. It's all happening, as a throw then hits the stumps and they're going to check upstairs...

"I think Guptill's major problem there is that the ball probably had icicles on it - it was so high. He had to wait an eternity for it.

"If you had just turned up at the ground and seen this over you would have thought New Zealand were getting pumped. It's been all go."

Fourth umpire Rod Tucker supplies a new ball, Najibullah goes for another big heave high into the sky - and is dropped by Martin Guptill coming in from the mid-wicket boundary! He doesn't normally drop them...

"On the roof! It was bowled right into his arc and Zadran got underneath it. It wasn't a bad delivery - but he powered it. That isn't a small stand - and he's landed it on the roof!"

  6. Six!published at 23:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Southee replaces Milne - and Najibullah shows no respect to the opening bowler, the top wicket-taker so far at this World Cup lifting him for an enormous six onto the roof of the stand! New ball, please...

  7. Afg 83-6 (Shenwari 15*, Najibullah 18*)published at 23:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Najibullah continues his counter-attack against Vettori, stepping forward and planting him over cover for four, overtaking Shenwari's score. Vettori tries to fox him with a quicker ball on leg stump which Najibullah helps to long leg for a single.

"Zadran is entertaining if not much else. He came in on Vettori's hat-trick delivery but survived that. Since then he has played some flashy cover drives, a vicious pull shot and has looked full of intent. He has provided some cheer for the Afghan fans."

  9. Afg 78-6published at 23:45 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

After a long delay - rather longer than you'd expect for a man to put a boot on, even if he's as bad as I am at tying shoelaces - Milne is ready to finish the over. Najibullah adds a single - he already has 13 from 11 balls. No plans to meekly block out the overs from him..

"The crowd are loving the masterclass in spin bowling that Daniel Vettori is putting on and the whole crowd get on their feet every time one of Afghanistan's batsmen manage to find the ropes.

"With the dance camera panning through the crowd the youngsters are certainly following the words of Taylor Swift's 'Shake it Off' that is blaring through the speakers and giving it their all. There is certainly a party feel in Napier on a rather serene Sunday afternoon."

  11. Ouch!published at 23:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

When you've grown up in war zones or refugee camps, it's no surprise that Afghanistan play cricket without fear. Najibullah, as if he's not seen the scoreboard, pulls a length ball from paceman Milne through mid-wicket for four! We then have a mid-over hold-up as after dealing Najibullah a glancing blow on the chest with a bouncer, Milne needs a new left boot...

Madhavan Raman: Brendan McCullum and New Zealand are so ultra-aggressive with field settings and it mostly pays dividends. England take note.

  13. Afg 73-6 (Shenwari 15*, Najibullah 8*)published at 23:38 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Vettori's figures take a bit of a pasting - relatively speaking - as a swept four from Shenwari takes the veteran slow left-armer's numbers to 6-3-9-4.

Michael Blighe: You know what, I like Daniel Vettori. We share a birthday, I also wear glasses and am also left-handed. Long-lost brothers?

  15. Afg 69-6published at 23:37 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Shenwari gets Afghanistan off 59, where they've lost two wickets, with a single. It's almost a Test match field as Milne has two slips, two gullies, a leg slip and McCullum under the lid at short leg for the left-handed Najibullah, who belies his position at number eight in the order with a couple of flashing cover-driven fours.

For a team 69-6, the Afghan fans are keeping remarkably good spirits, whooping with delight on the grassy banks. A lesson in how to just enjoy being at a tournament - we must not forget, they were only admitted to the ICC in 2001 and have come so far since then.

"From a fan's point of view you hope Afghanistan can muster 150 - but even 100 is looking unlikely. Everyone hopes they can score a few more runs to make a day of it. I think even the New Zealand fans will be secretly willing them on."

  18. Afg 59-6 (Vettori 5-3-5-4)published at 23:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

It's like a club cricket field with almost everyone around the bat for the hat-trick ball - two slips, a leg slip, a helmeted short leg, a short cover and a short mid-wicket all crouch down. Najibullah Zadran survives.

Vettori's figures need another mention. Five overs, three maidens, five runs, four wickets.
