  1. Post update

That's about it from us: you can read Michael Emons's match report if you're just getting up (shame on you!) and have missed the game.

You'll need to set your alarms tomorrow as there are two games on: we'll be here at 00:30 GMT for Bangladesh v New Zealand (01:00 start), swiftly followed by England's final game of a pretty sorry World Cup at 03:30 when they bid to avoid an Afghanistan-shaped banana skin. You'll be able to hear Test Match Special commentary on both games via BBC Radio 5 live sports extra and the BBC Sport website.

Until then, enjoy the rest of your day. We'll be back tomorrow.

Kishin Mahtani: Last World Cup the team that beat only West Indies among Test nations and finished second in their group went on to win the Cup.

  3. Man of the match

More from AB de Villiers: "It's never just a given you are going to make the quarter-finals of the World Cup, we have a lot of people we are representing back home and we have a great opportunity.

[on taking 2-15 with his bowling] "There was an opportunity to give some of the part-time bowlers a run and it might come in handy in the knock-out games, it's not a given we are going to play seven batsmen but if we do it's good to have bowling options."

    AB de Villiers
  4. Man of the match

South Africa skipper AB de Villiers: "Very happy about today, in the early stages of the match it moved around a bit and they made it difficult so I was very happy with the way we fought, which is what I want to see as a captain.

"I try to keep it simple and stick to my game plans, it's not always easy to play against what they say is not such a good team so it was important to stick to my game plans and I think most of our batters did that really well."

  5. Man of the match

He bats, he scores the most runs; he bowls, he takes wickets; he fields, he keeps, he takes catches, he captains, and he can probably knock you up a mean soufflé in his spare time - the man of the match is AB de Villiers.

  6. Post update

    So how's the table looking?

South Africa get a "Q" next to their name and have completed their pool fixtures. Barring an unlikely net run-rate scenario elsewhere, they'll likely finish second, earning them a quarter-final place against the third-placed Pool A team, which barring any upsets in the final games, looks likely to be Sri Lanka.

    Pool B graphic
  7. Captain's view

UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir: "We bowled well until 44-45 overs when things went a bit wrong. In batting it was a good knock from Patil and we almost batted 50 overs which is very positive for our batters.

"It has given us a lot of confidence, they have some amazing bowlers, we are not used to playing against them. There is a huge difference between our domestic and this level so this is good experience, the more we play against these nations the better it is for our cricket."

    Tauqir
  8. Final scorecard

UAE 195-9 (all out) (47.3 overs)

    Batsman: Patil 57*

    Fall of wicket: 29-1 (Berenger 5), 45-2 (Amjad 21), 45-3 (Khurram 12), 108-4 (Anwar 39), 118-5 (Haider 7), 125-6 (Javed 5), 163-7 (Naveed 17), 189-8 (Tauqir 3), 195-9 (Shazad 0) - Alhashmi absent hurt

    Bowling figures: Steyn 9-1-40-1, Philander 8.3-1-34-2, Morkel 10-2-23-2, Duminy 3-1-12-1, Behardien 4-1-11-0, Tahir 10-0-40-1 De Villiers 3-0-15-2.

A fairly routine win for South Africa - and the doughty Swapnil Patil finishes with 57 not out from 100 balls.

  10. Post update

    Neil Manthorp

    BBC Test Match Special

"South Africa's ground fielding was a bit untidy, the catching was very good, I think they would have liked a few more runs but you can't complain too much about 341. Morne Morkel bowled very well. Philander looked a bit rusty which is understandable, he hasn't played a game for over a fortnight.

"They did what they were allowed to. It can be difficult, a bit like when a soccer team plays a team three leagues below them and they put eight across the goal."

  12. WICKET

Shazad c Steyn b Philander 0 (UAE 195-9, all out)

Can Philander finish off the innings? Shazad takes the traditional tail-ender's step back, and swing - he tries that and misses twice, and is caught at mid-on off the third ball.

The players shake hands - with the injured Alhashmi unable to bat, the UAE are nine down but all out.

  13. Post update

    Neil Manthorp

    BBC Test Match Special

"There's only been horrible result when the UAE were bowled out for 100 by India and I just think 200 is entirely respectable by the UAE. All of the associates have done themselves proud."

  14. UAE 195-8

Patil is joined by Kamran Shazad, who we think will be the last man as the injured Fahad Alhashmi is unlikely to bat. But for now, Patil's enjoying himself, knocking Morkel back over his head for four. He sees off the over, but Shazad will be facing next over.

With the required rate having climbed above 36 and the UAE therefore needing snookers, I hope you'll understand if I no longer list the target each over...

    Neil Manthorp

    BBC Test Match Special

"Patil has worked, dare I say, probably harder than anyone else who has reached fifty in this tournament. He's been there for a very long time, he came to the wicket in the 13th over."

  18. Patil 50

    UAE 188-7

Whisper it quietly, the UAE could end up batting out the overs here, something which looked unfathomable half-an-hour or so ago. It's celebration time for the doughty Swapnil Patil, who pulls a two through mid-wicket for his second ODI fifty from 93 balls.

  19. UAE 186-7 (target 342)

Can Morne Morkel, with 2-16 from eight overs, finish it for South Africa? He fires one in from round the wicket which hits Tauqir's armguard and disappears for four "leg" byes - acceptable, as he was taking evasive action.

  21. UAE 181-7

This match is sleepwalking towards its inevitable conclusion - Steyn has two slips in but can't draw the edge from captain Tauqir, who defends a couple of straight ones. Maiden over. In the 44th over of an ODI.

  22. UAE 181-7 (target 342)

Patil goes for the scoop, shovelling Tahir over his left shoulder for a couple, while we then have a collector's item - a fielding mistake by De Villiers who swoops on the ball but can't effect a clean pick-up and they run one. Maybe he's human after all.

  23. UAE 177-7 (Patil 44*, Tauqir 2*)

Dale Steyn to return, it's not quite been vintage Steyn today as he's now wicketless in seven overs as the UAE pair help themselves to occasional ones and twos. Patil is six runs away from what would be only a second ODI half-century.

And a bit of news for England fans - former England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive David Collier has a new job. He'll be taking over as CEO of the Rugby League International Federation on 1 April.

  24. UAE 173-7 (target 342)

Tahir in for his ninth over, Patil sweeps and they run two to the lumbering Morne Morkel at fine leg, while in a rare attacking foray, he whacks a four through extra cover. If anyone's still holding out hope of an unlikely UAE win, the required rate is up above 18.

  25. Scorecard update

    UAE 166-7 (40 overs)

    Batsmen: Patil 35*, Tauqir 1*

    Fall of wicket: 29-1 (Berenger 5), 45-2 (Amjad 21), 45-3 (Khurram 12) 108-4 (Anwar 39) 118-5 (Haider 7) 125-6 (Javed 5) 163-7 (Naveed 17)

    Bowling figures: Steyn 6-0-33-0, Philander 8-1-34-1, Morkel 8-2-16-2, Duminy 3-1-12-1, Behardien 4-1-11-0, Tahir 8-0-29-1 De Villiers 3-0-15-2

  26. UAE 166-7 (Patil 34*, Tauqir 1*)

Captain Mohammad Tauqir in at nine, one place higher than he's been for most of the tournament so far. He pokes a single into the covers while at the other end, Patil is chipping away with another couple of singles and has 35 from 73 balls.

    Naveed c De Villiers b Philander 17 (UAE 163-7)

Naveed's entertaining cameo is ended as he swipes the ball over mid-wicket and is easily caught by the skipper to give the recalled Philander another wicket. De Villiers has scored 99, taken two wickets and a catch, the man of the match award engraver can probably make a start.

Supporters cheer as South Africa claim another wicket
  29. UAE 162-6 (target 342)

Having tried his three fast bowlers so far in this powerplay, De Villiers turns to leg-spinner Imran Tahir. Naveed clubs a couple of singles.

And if you didn't hear the Paul Farbrace interview on TMS during the interval between innings, you can read it on the BBC Sport website.

  30. Post update

    Neil Manthorp

    BBC Test Match Special

"Very, very impressive from Morne Morkel, he's pretty frightening at the moment. But if a bowler bowls a no-ball it's amazing how many times the seventh ball of the over goes to the boundary. Morkel has had the chastening experience of losing out on wickets because of bowling no balls."

  31. UAE 158-6 (Patil 32*, Naveed 15*)

Morkel replaces Philander, the crowd will be pleased as a Patil single gets the entertaining Naveed back on strike. He backs away to leg and swings but Morkel, bowling round the wicket, delivers a no-ball. (Not that Naveed really needs the invitation of a free hit to have a wild swing). The free hit ball is signalled as wide, so we get another, which Naveed swipes high into the night sky. He's "caught" by De Kock as the batsmen run a single. With Patil back on strike, the tempo changes, and he has to rear away from a snorter from Morkel.

Moose: Is AB even human?! Or is he a secret Dr Who robot?

  33. UAE 154-6 (target 342)

Shaun Pollock on TMS correctly predicts a slower ball... but it's wide of off sump and Naveed lets it go by. 15 from the over, keep doing that and they could theoretically win...

  34. Six

    UAE 154-6

An enormous change in pace at the other end, as De Villiers (right-arm medium if we're being generous) is replaced by Dale Steyn (right-arm fast, no arguments). But the faster he bowls, the faster he can go to the boundary, as an attempted yorker is guided off his legs for four by Patil. A single brings the free-swinging Naveed on strike, he aims a cross-batted blast which flies over the keeper for four and then hoists Steyn into the stand at long-on for six! It's keeping the crowd on their feet, at least. UAE past 150.

  35. Post update

    Shaun Pollock

Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match Special

"This is the danger for South Africa, this is when Philander comes back and he's not nearly as effective as he could be, the lack of pace at this time of the innings you can definitely put him under pressure."

  36. UAE 139-6 (target 342)

Amla steps back from slip to virtually a fly slip position. We have two contrasting batsmen at the crease: while Patil is attempting to bat through the 50 overs, Naveed looks determined to go out in a blaze of glory - and when he does connect, he swings the ball high over extra cover for four.

Chaos Theory: Wayne Parnell now doing tricks in the field just like football players do when they are winning by a huge margin.

  38. Powerplay

    UAE 135-6

Aussie umpire Steve Davis, who rarely shows much emotion on the field, twirls his arm with a little more gusto than usual to signal the batting powerplay, and Philander returns from the City End. Patil pushes ahead with a single, Naveed has a huge agricultural mow and misses, earning him a smaile from Philander, who then fires in a bouncer which plunks Naveed on the helmet and flicks over the keeper's head for four leg byes.

  39. UAE 130-6 (De Villiers 3-0-15-2)

Mohammad Naveed is the new batsman but it's Patil on strike - and even De Villiers can't help being smacked through the leg side for four when he sends one down too short. Will he bowl himself in a powerplay?

Javed c sub (WD Parnell) b De Villiers 5 (UAE 125-6)

Wayne Parnell takes his juggling catch

Javed is the next man to fall - top-edging De Villiers into the night sky and it's juggled a couple of times and eventually caught by Wayne Parnell at wide mid-on. ABDV now has 2-10 - nothing wrong with buying a wicket, your honour.

    Scorecard

  43. UAE 121-5 (target 342)

Jay: I bet ABDV can bowl a swinging yorker, reverse sweep that for six and then scramble to take a stunning catch in the stands.

I've found it unwise to predict what ABDV can and cannot do.

  45. UAE 119-5

Amjad Javed, who's got some long levers on him, is the new batsman. Patil helps himself to a single, and Javed defends his first ball off the back foot. ABDV has 1-6 from two overs.

  46. Post update

    Shaun Pollock

Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match Special

"It was a wonderful catch, a lot of ground covered by Roussouw. It was in the air for a period of time but he had to cover a lot of ground and put the dive in, then hang on when his elbows hit the ground. I think AB will want to check to see where he is on the list of wicket-takers in this tournament now!"

  47. WICKET

    Haider c Rossouw b De Villiers 7 (UAE 118-5)

ABDV gives himself a second over - and he's the man with the golden arm as Haider skies one high over mid-wicket and it's the second stunning catch of the day by the diving Rossouw, who really is leading the life of Rilee today.

    Scorecard

    Rossouw
  48. UAE 115-4 (Patil 17*, Haider 6*)

Left-hander Haider unleashes an early reverse sweep against Tahir which disappears for four. The target - for those of you prone to wild optimism - is another 227 runs from 18 overs, with the required rate shooting above 12 and a half.

  49. UAE 110-4 (target 342)

Bringing yourself on to bowl just after a wicket's fallen is the perk of captains in all forms of cricket - and that's what AB de Villiers has done, to send down an over of gentle medium pace. Despite his skills as a near-superhuman batsman and fielder (and occasional wicketkeeper), AB has proved himself a half-decent part-time bowler in recent times, and only concedes two singles from the over - so may grant himself another. New batsman Saqlain Haider is off the mark.

  50. Scorecard update

But it's not Anwar's day as he slog-sweeps Tahir into the deep and picks out the man at deep mid-wicket.

The UAE are four down - but if you weren't with us earlier, it could be effectively five as seamer Fahad Alhashmi, down at number 10 on the card, left the field on an injury cart and with runners no longer permitted in international cricket, he must be at least a doubt to come out and bat.

    BBC Test Match Special statistician

"Most runs by an Associate player at a World Cup: Shaiman Anwar 308 (when he reached 38*) 2015, ahead of Ryan ten Doeschate's 307 in 2011."

  54. Ouch!

    UAE 105-3 (target 342)

A seagull circles the Wellington "Cake Tin" as a single means Anwar moves ahead of Amla on 308 runs four the tournament - his next target is India's Shikhar Dhawan, in fourth place on 333. His partner Patil is more watchful against Morkel, who oversteps for a no-ball which Patil knocks for a single - that earns Anwar a free hit. But the free hit ball smacks Anwar on the hip, that's got to hurt...

"I think the World Cup should inspire more small teams to think 'hey the UAE are there, we could get there'. The ICC should be trying to grow the game even if it means losing a little money, or a lot of money."

  56. UAE 102-3 (Anwar 37*, Patil 13*)

With the UAE needing a mere 245 from 23 overs, captain De Villiers rotates his bowlers in search of a fourth wicket. Anwar sweeps him for four to take his side into three figures. Tahir has 0-16 from four.

  57. Post update

    Pommie Mbangwa

  58. UAE 97-3 (target 342)

Anwar, briefly the tournament's leading run-scorer earlier in the group stage if I remember rightly, is moving up the charts again, now six runs behind fifth-placed Hashim Amla who has 307 runs from six innings. South Africa want a wicket so turn back to Morne Morkel who gave the Emirati a bit of chin music earlier. He fires in a bouncer which hits the seam and sails over the keeper's head for four byes which bring up the fifty stand. Anwar edges his score to 32 with a single.

  59. UAE 91-3 (Anwar 31*, Patil 12*)

Anwar comes down the track to Philander and smacks him wide of mid-off for four, right off the meat of the bat. Philander responds by digging in a bouncer which Anwar ducks - then next ball, he launches the bowler for another four, this time over his head. This stand is now worth 46, but Anwar is keeping this sparse crowd entertained.

  64. UAE 82-3

Vernon Philander, back in the side today after a hamstring injury, returns for a second spell as he continues to prove his fitness - but Anwar is happy to fight fire with fire as he stands tall and hooks a bouncer for four. A single takes him to 22 from 39 balls - his partner Patil, freed from wicketkeeping duties today, has 12 from 32.

  65. UAE 76-3 (target 342)

South Africa decide on another burst from Dale Steyn, who has a slip in, but that's too close to the legs of Anwar, one of the leading scorers in the tournament and by a distance the leading Associate batsman, and he helps it off his pads for four. But otherwise, it's a painful over for Anwar who has to deal with a couple of bounders from the Proteas speedster.

  66. Post update

  67. UAE 72-3 (Anwar 13*, Patil 12*)

Anwar and Patil help themselves to ones and twos against Behardien - all very well if they're trying to bat out the 50 overs, but it won't be long before the required run rate creeps towards 10 an over.

Thanks, Michael. As ever, Imran Tahir is quickly through his over, much needed by South Africa with the length of some of those run-ups. It looks like the over's only going to cost a couple of singles before Patil sweeps, bisecting two boundary fielders and the UAE have their first boundary for 11 overs.

Slow, slow progress in Wellington. Anwar is extremely lucky to not chop one wide back on to his off stump. Behardien has bowled three overs, and only conceded six. And with that, it is back to Mark Mitchener.

  72. UAE 59-3

Shaiman Anwar sends a full toss away for one at long-off, before another single to the same area. Only three off the over. As Shaun Pollock suggests, UAE are completely being outclassed at the moment.

"The associate nations turn up to World Cups and are full of confidence, they've worked really hard on their games. Then what often happens is after two or three games they get found out and realise they cant compete with the bigger teams, get a bit deflated and you get performances like this, where they are going through the motions in many ways."

  74. UAE 56-3 (Anwar 5, Patil 4)

The UAE batsman are beginning to look impatient, frustrated by their lack of recent runs. A wild swing from Patil. Probably good he didn't touch it as it could've gone anywhere. Patil has faced 19 balls. And scored four. A maiden for Behardien.

  75. UAE 56-3 (target 342)

Imran Tahir is another bowler who has had a good tournament, picking up five wickets against West Indies, three against Zimbabwe and one against both India and Pakistan.

The spinner nearly has another wicket with his first ball here. It nips back violently into Shaiman Anwar, who is very relieved to see the ball missing leg stump. A single each for both batsmen in the 17th over.

  76. UAE 54-3

It is the first look today at the bowling of Farhaan Behardien. He is aiming to build on his impressive form with the bat earlier today that saw him score 64 off 31 balls and a few wickets could guarantee his quarter-final spot.

But the radar is a bit off in his first over. Two wides, but still only four off the over. UAE are wrapped up, struggling to survive at the moment. Unless there is an absolute miracle, any slim chances of a shock victory look to have vanished already.

Morne Morkel continues to excel. He has figures of two wickets for seven runs, off five overs. Patil top edges for one, before a couple for Anwar off the final ball of the over.

  79. UAE 47-3

In his previous four matches, Shaiman Anwar had scored 270 runs. As a comparison, that is more than England's Eoin Morgan (90), Gary Ballance (36) and James Taylor (141) put together. Now that is one depressing stat for English fans.

Anwar gets off the mark in the 14th over with a single off the pads after Duminy had gone around the wicket.

But there's no mercy from Morkel as a few deliveries later another feisty one smashes into the top of the bat, bouncing off the fingers. How will the batsman cope with this. Hostile from Morkel. He wants more wickets.

  90. UAE 32-1 (Morkel 1-1, Philander 0-13)

What a tournament it has been for Morne Morkel. His dismisal of Berenger was his 12th wicket of the tournament. He may well be getting more soon. The UAE batsman struggle to deal with him and the ninth over is a maiden.

He didn't have the players he had in his first spell like Dermot Reeve and Paul Smith, but he broke things down so perfectly for you that it became absolute simplicity, rather than you having six or seven different thoughts at the crease."

Three singles off the over. Vernon Philander's four overs have only gone for 13 so far. He came in for Kyle Abbott, who had taken eight wickets in his last three matches. Who will get the nod for the quarter-final? A lovely dilemma to have for the South Africans.

For all you romantics out there, UAE do not just need to record their highest ever total to win, they absolutely have to smash their previous best.

Their score of 285-7 in their first match of the tournament against Zimbabwe is currently their best ever one-day effort. But it is a solid start from the underdogs.

He has to work at it - that's why he likes to stand at mid-on early on, though usually he's in a more key position at the business end. I'm not saying it would weaken the fielding if he took the [wicketkeeping] gloves in the quarter-finals, but it might take the edge off his captaincy."

  100. UAE 19-0

Amjad flicks one away off his pads as Dale Steyn loses his line and it is a boundary through mid-wicket for the UAE man. Ali then throws everything he has got at another Steyn delivery, nearly losing his footing as his swivels around for a single down to third man.

Rain had been forecast today, but there are no signs of any weather interruptions with Wellington in the sunshine.

  101. UAE 14-0 (target 342)

Thanks Mitch. So how will these batsmen fare against Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander? They probably haven't come up against this pace much before.

Philander concedes a couple of leg byes in an otherwise uneventful fourth over.

  102. Appeal - not out

    UAE 12-0

Steyn also has a third slip posted as Berenger swings and slices one over the cordon for four. Then the big fast bowler screams an lbw appeal as Berenger tries to force him through the leg side - but he's right to decide against a review as the ball-tracker says "wickets missing".

Time for me to hand you back to Michael Emons for a spell...

  103. UAE 7-0 (Amjad 4, Berenger 1)

The fit-again Vernon Philander will take the second new ball from the other end - Berenger is off the mark with a single, but captain AB de Villiers has seen enough in Philander's bowling to bring in a third slip. As coaches, we have to cover everyone's preferences. 130. SA 316-6 (Behardien 41, Philander 9)

Behardien lofts one over the bowler's head - while the UAE are confusing matters as the substitute fielder who gives chase is wearing a shirt with wicketkeeper Saqlain Haider's name and number on. (Surely not even a superhuman fielder like AB de Villiers could keep wicket AND field in the deep?). Behardien, who's scoring almost twice as quickly as Duminy, heaves a four through mid-wicket.

De Villiers is jumping around in the crease, trying to put the 43-year-old off, and when he serves up a juicy pie outside off stump, De Villiers fetches it from outside off and slog-sweeps him for six over mid-wicket to move to 99...

  148. SA 246-4

Some good news for the UAE - the powerplay restrictions are over so they can send a fourth fielder outside the circle. They turn back to Kamran Shazad, who has a big mop of dark hair arranged in a central parting, and it looks as though he's rushing back to his mark between deliveries as the UAE have only just sneaked past 40 overs in three hours of play. AB and JP look relatively comfortable until De Villiers hits one hard just to the bowler's left, Javed gets his left hand to it but can't hold on. A drop - and a possibly costly one. While listed on Cricinfo as "right-arm medium-fast", it looks like he's bowling off-spin. And with four balls to bowl, it's not the worst start from Anwar that he only concedes four singles.

South Africa captain AB de Villiers says his team have already put the Pool B defeats by India and Pakistan out of their minds.

"We didn't expect to be five from five - the World Cup is a funny tournament. We would have liked to win those two big games against India and Pakistan. It didn't happen that way, and there's no time to sulk about that now." he said.

"If you look at the standings at the moment, we win the last game and we'll be in a good position to go with a lot of confidence into the quarters."

  241. Tauqir happy with UAE progression

UAE captain Mohammad Tauqir says playing the top teams at this World Cup has aided the development of his side.

The UAE, who last played against Pakistan on 4 March, conclude their campaign against the West Indies in Napier on 15 March after tonight's match at the "Cake Tin".

"We've had a few close games, one bad game against India, but overall it has been a good learning experience for our team," he said.

"We'd like to do well in the last two matches. We've got a few good cricketers who would like to prove a point."

  242. Allan Donald hits the helmetless Sultan Zarawani in 1996

Not only was their previous meeting memorable for Gary Kirsten's efforts, the United Arab Emirates captain baffled his South African opponents by coming out to bat in a sunhat.

With his team struggling at 68-6, Sultan Zarawani walked to the wicket to face one of the world's fastest bowlers, Allan Donald, without a helmet.

Donald bowled a bouncer with his first delivery, but Zarawani wasn't able to get out of the way and took a blow to his head. He was out soon after, as the UAE slumped to a 169-run defeat in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

  243. Previous meeting

Gary Kirsten hit 188 not out as South Africa made 321-2, before UAE scored 152-8 off their 50 overs. Kirsten's score was a tournament record which was only broken last month with Chris Gayle's 215 for West Indies against Zimbabwe.

  244. 'We could see some records broken'

    Charles Dagnall

    BBC Test Match Special

"If South Africa feel in the mood, we could see some records broken here, at what is basically a converted rugby ground. It's a drop-in pitch, it looks straw-coloured and absolutely perfect."

  247. Captain's view

South Africa captain AB de Villiers: "I'm not too unhappy [at fielding first]. It's another opportunity for our batters to scores some runs and get into form. If we do come out on top we'll be thinking about the knock-out stages, but for now the biggest game is today."

  249. Team line-ups

South Africa are without Faf du Plessis, who has been struggling with a lower back injury, so Farhaan Behardien comes in. Kyle Abbott, with eight wickets in his last three matches, makes way for Vernon Philander.

UAE make a couple of changes. Saqlain Haider will keep wicket and Fahad Alhashmi makes his first appearance of the competition.

South Africa: Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock (wk), Rilee Rossouw, AB de Villiers (capt), JP Duminy, David Miller, Farhaan Behardien, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir.

UAE: Amjad Ali, Andre Berenger, Khurram Khan, Shaiman Anwar, Swapnil Patil, Saqlain Haider (wk), Amjad Javed, Mohammad Naveed, Mohammad Tauqir (capt), Fahad Alhashmi, Kamran Shazad.

The on-field umpires are Steve Davis and Rod Tucker, with fellow Aussie Bruce Oxenford on TV replays.

  250. How they stand

So South Africa are through then? Well, not quite. However, only a freak set of results will deny them. They would have to heavily lose to UAE, West Indies would have to thrash UAE on Saturday and Sunday's game between Pakistan and Ireland would need to end in a tie or a no result.

Four wins from six matches would likely secure second place in Pool B for AB de Villiers' side and set up a last-eight meeting against Sri Lanka in Sydney on 18 March.

The UAE have lost all four of their World Cup matches and are already out of the tournament, but produced spirited performances in the defeats by Zimbabwe and Ireland.

  253. Can UAE stop South Africa?

Twice they have made totals of more than 400, five different players have made centuries and AB de Villiers's 150 was the fastest in World Cup history.

When South Africa have got it right during this tournament, they have been sensational.

Can United Arab Emirates, who have never beaten a Test-playing nation in a World Cup, stop the South African batting power?
