"It was an absolute snorter from Morne Morkel after a bouncer the previous ball. The batsman fended it off and would have imagined it would have landed safe, but the technique for Rossouw to scoop the ball up was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful fielding. And Morkel is running in seriously hard here."

Stunning from Rilee Rossouw. And Andri Berenger is gone. Rossouw dives to his left after a lively ball from Morne Morkel and scoops the ball up just before it could hit the ground. A wonderfully hostile over from Morkel, who had sent in a bouncer earlier in the over.

  3. UAE 26-0 (target 342)published at 05:43 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

For all you romantics out there, UAE do not just need to record their highest ever total to win, they absolutely have to smash their previous best.

Their score of 285-7 in their first match of the tournament against Zimbabwe is currently their best ever one-day effort. But it is a solid start from the underdogs.

Philander drifts into the pads, and Amjad punishes him with his third boundary of the innings, before adding another three after taking advantage of two sloppy mis-fields from South Africa. Seven off the over.

"In terms of AB de Villiers' captaincy, I don't think it comes naturally to him. He has to work at it - that's why he likes to stand at mid-on early on, though usually he's in a more key position at the business end. I'm not saying it would weaken the fielding if he took the [wicketkeeping] gloves in the quarter-finals, but it might take the edge off his captaincy."

  5. UAE 19-0published at 05:38 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Amjad flicks one away off his pads as Dale Steyn loses his line and it is a boundary through mid-wicket for the UAE man. Ali then throws everything he has got at another Steyn delivery, nearly losing his footing as his swivels around for a single down to third man.

Rain had been forecast today, but there are no signs of any weather interruptions with Wellington in the sunshine.

  6. UAE 14-0 (target 342)published at 05:34 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Thanks Mitch. So how will these batsmen fare against Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander? They probably haven't come up against this pace much before.

Philander concedes a couple of leg byes in an otherwise uneventful fourth over.

  7. Appeal - not outpublished at 05:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Steyn also has a third slip posted as Berenger swings and slices one over the cordon for four. Then the big fast bowler screams an lbw appeal as Berenger tries to force him through the leg side - but he's right to decide against a review as the ball-tracker says "wickets missing".

Time for me to hand you back to Michael Emons for a spell...

  8. UAE 7-0 (Amjad 4, Berenger 1)published at 05:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

The fit-again Vernon Philander will take the second new ball from the other end - Berenger is off the mark with a single, but captain AB de Villiers has seen enough in Philander's bowling to bring in a third slip. Amjad tries to force the ball off his legs, they run a leg bye and Behardien's throw deflects off non-striker Berenger and they almost apologetically run an overthrow.

"Dale Steyn is celebrating his 100th ODI cap for the second time as he actually made his ODI debut for an Africa XI against an Asia XI in 2005, playing two games. Today is his 102nd ODI - and his 100th cap for South Africa."

  10. UAE 4-0 (target 342)published at 05:22 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Steyn fires one past Amjad's outside edge, before the left-hander gets them on the scoreboard by pulling a shorter delivery for four through mid-wicket.

And quick as a flash, because they bowled their overs a little slowly which shortened the interval a little, the UAE are ready to begin their innings - needing 342 for a shock victory against South Africa.

What if England suffer an upset against Afghanistan on Friday?

More from England assistant coach Paul Farbrace on TMS: "I'm not thinking about losing to Afghanistan. I was expecting us to beat Bangladesh, but they were the better side. What happens if we don't beat Afghanistan? That's something I'm not even thinking about. I want to be involved in a successful England team, I thoroughly enjoyed it at Yorkshire and Sri Lanka, and I want success with England."

More from England assistant coach Paul Farbrace on TMS: "The amount of data and team meetings we had with Sri Lanka was more than we had with the England team. Ian Bell is a very methodical player who looks at the footage, while Moeen Ali doesn't want to hear about the opposition - he just wants to go out and do his job. As coaches, we have to cover everyone's preferences. We don't spend hours and hours looking over numbers - we have an analyst who gives us the figures, and if we choose to share that with the players, we do. The idea that we spend hours and hours on analysis isn't true."

More from England assistant coach Paul Farbrace on TMS: "When the national team doesn't play well, you take the flak. That goes with the territory. It's not Peter Moores's fault that we've not qualified for the next stage - we're all in it together, players and coaches. We win together and we lose together. We're deeply hurt and we want to show we can make amends."

  17. Postpublished at 05:11 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

England assistant coach Paul Farbrace on TMS: "The team spirit's not good, if I'm honest. It's been huge disappointment with results and the way we've played. I'm not sure we've recovered from the first two crushing defeats against Australia and New Zealand. There's no plan to play cautiously - Moeen Ali goes out and hits the new ball over the top. Tomorrow is about being up for the game, we want them to go out and play with freedom."

  18. Postpublished at 05:09 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

More from Afghanistan coach Andy Moles on TMS: "We're under no illusions that we're going to win the tournament, but we've won a lot of friends, we need to be realistic and work on how we can make the side better. The group of players underneath this group needs to get a lot more cricket in them."

What are the differences between working in Birmingham and Kabul?

"The curries are better in Birmingham. Anyone who knows me will know I love a curry. I've been in Kabul for two or three months in the seven or eight months I've had the job, and I've not felt threatened at any time, touch wood. Cricket in Afghanistan is like India - these players are idolised, they're leaders and they're a unifying message around the world."

David, Spain: That final knock by Behardien has probably sealed it for South Africa. Up till then, UAE had restricted a strong batting line-up pretty well. Yet to be seen if Anwar and Khurram Khan can make the chase exciting.

Afghanistan coach Andy Moles on TMS, looking ahead to the England game: "If we show a bit more composure with the bat, we've still got a scare in us. They've got to play the Afghan way, they play with passion, there are sometimes arguments when someone's made the wrong decision, but they leave that on the field. What we've got to do is learn from these opportunities against Full Member sides, and we'll learn the more we play."
