Anwar comes down the track to Philander and smacks him wide of mid-off for four, right off the meat of the bat. Philander responds by digging in a bouncer which Anwar ducks - then next ball, he launches the bowler for another four, this time over his head. This stand is now worth 46, but Anwar is keeping this sparse crowd entertained.

"Bangladesh could yet be South Africa's quarter-final opponents should they upset the high-flying New Zealanders."

Steyn in for his fifth over, Anwar looks content to see him off, just a single from the over. For those of you who remember the opening game of the inaugural World Cup in 1975, it's the Sunil Gavaskar approach to run chases...

"Large rain is on its way apparently, if that's the case the UAE are about 150 runs behind on Duckworth-Lewis. Maybe not 150 but 100."

"Normally De Villiers doesn't really want to bowl Philander at the end but he might make an exception today just so he can put those hamstrings to the test."

Vernon Philander, back in the side today after a hamstring injury, returns for a second spell as he continues to prove his fitness - but Anwar is happy to fight fire with fire as he stands tall and hooks a bouncer for four. A single takes him to 22 from 39 balls - his partner Patil, freed from wicketkeeping duties today, has 12 from 32.
South Africa decide on another burst from Dale Steyn, who has a slip in, but that's too close to the legs of Anwar, one of the leading scorers in the tournament and by a distance the leading Associate batsman, and he helps it off his pads for four. But otherwise, it's a painful over for Anwar who has to deal with a couple of bounders from the Proteas speedster.

"I think South Africa will want to play all their batsmen, I don't think they will drop Quinton de Kock despite his lack of touch, I think they'll give him the opportunity in the big games. I think they'll want to play [Rilee] Rossouw as well."
Anwar and Patil help themselves to ones and twos against Behardien - all very well if they're trying to bat out the 50 overs, but it won't be long before the required run rate creeps towards 10 an over.

"UAE just trying to limit the damage here."

Thanks, Michael. As ever, Imran Tahir is quickly through his over, much needed by South Africa with the length of some of those run-ups. It looks like the over's only going to cost a couple of singles before Patil sweeps, bisecting two boundary fielders and the UAE have their first boundary for 11 overs.
UAE 61-3 (20 overs)
Batsmen: Anwar 8*, Patil 6*
Fall of wicket: 29-1 (Berenger 5), 45-2 (Amjad 21), 45-3 (Khurram 12)
Bowling figures: Steyn 3-0-13-0, Philander 4-1-13-0, Morkel 5-2-7-2, Duminy 3-1-12-1, Behardien 3-1-6-0, Tahir 2-0-5-0
South Africa 341-6 (50 overs); De Villiers 99, Behardien 64 not out, Naveed 3-63
UAE won toss
Slow, slow progress in Wellington. Anwar is extremely lucky to not chop one wide back on to his off stump. Behardien has bowled three overs, and only conceded six. And with that, it is back to Mark Mitchener.
Shaiman Anwar sends a full toss away for one at long-off, before another single to the same area. Only three off the over. As Shaun Pollock suggests, UAE are completely being outclassed at the moment.

"The associate nations turn up to World Cups and are full of confidence, they've worked really hard on their games. Then what often happens is after two or three games they get found out and realise they cant compete with the bigger teams, get a bit deflated and you get performances like this, where they are going through the motions in many ways."
The UAE batsman are beginning to look impatient, frustrated by their lack of recent runs. A wild swing from Patil. Probably good he didn't touch it as it could've gone anywhere. Patil has faced 19 balls. And scored four. A maiden for Behardien.

"Tahir picks up wickets so often and when a new man comes to the crease he's very difficult to pick."
Imran Tahir is another bowler who has had a good tournament, picking up five wickets against West Indies, three against Zimbabwe and one against both India and Pakistan.
The spinner nearly has another wicket with his first ball here. It nips back violently into Shaiman Anwar, who is very relieved to see the ball missing leg stump. A single each for both batsmen in the 17th over.
It is the first look today at the bowling of Farhaan Behardien. He is aiming to build on his impressive form with the bat earlier today that saw him score 64 off 31 balls and a few wickets could guarantee his quarter-final spot.
But the radar is a bit off in his first over. Two wides, but still only four off the over. UAE are wrapped up, struggling to survive at the moment. Unless there is an absolute miracle, any slim chances of a shock victory look to have vanished already.
