Michael, Edinburgh, on holiday in Australia: Can't see SA dropping De Kock, AB's form with bat has largely been since losing the gloves and as captain he has enough on plate with being on a warning to take them back.

  2. SA 167-3 (Tauqir 10-0-47-1)published at 03:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Mohammad Tauqir to bowl his final over, having sent down all 10 off the reel - Miller belatedly collects his first boundary off his 32nd ball with a fluent swept four, before a drive to long-off - which would be just a single with most batsmen at the crease - is turned into two with the speedy De Villiers running to the danger end. Nine off the over, the skipper's bowled out, and South Africa are ominously upping the run rate with a batting powerplay on the horizon.

  3. Scorecard updatepublished at 03:11 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

South Africa 158-3 (30 overs; lost toss)

Batsmen: De Villiers 35*, Miller 29*

    Fall of wicket: 17-1 (Amla 12), 85-2 (De Kock 26), 96-3 (Rossouw 43)

    Bowling figures: Naveed 6-0-26-1, Shazad 5-0-39-0, Javed 5-0-22-1, Tauqir 9-0-38-1, Alhashmi 5-0-28-0.

Alhashmi sends down a legside wide out of Miller's reach, and when the left-hander attempts a fierce straight drive, Alhasmi sticks out a powerful leg and gets his right boot to it. Aiming to bowl his medium pace wicket-to-wicket with the keeper standing up. Even after De Villiers threads a well-run three through the covers, Miller has 29 from 31 balls, De Villiers has 35 from 43, and they've only hit one boundary between them - that six which AB hoisted over extra cover.

  5. SA 153-3 (De Villiers 32, Miller 28)published at 03:06 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Tauqir, looking to make up for that drop, is quickly through his over, while De Villiers isn't happy about something, coming down the wicket to speak to the umpire and jabbing a finger at something or other. Three singles are added, and ABDV has another word at the end of the over.

"It got to Tauqir quicker than he expected. He is standing at cover and Miller hit the ball hard, but, fortunately for him, it was a couple of feet to the left of Tauqir and it did not stick."

  7. Dropped catchpublished at 03:04 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Some scrappy fielding from the UAE as the left-handed Miller chips Alhashmi just to the left of skipper Tauqir at short cover, he gets a hand to it but can't hold on. Tauqir may be 43, but we have to put that down as a drop. A single brings up the fifty stand, while a hard-run three takes South Africa to the landmark of 150, while the stocky Alhashmi doesn't field particularly well off his own bowling when a throw comes in.

Captain Mohammad Tauqir, I'd wager, will bowl his overs straight through here - it's the skipper's prerogative to get them in before any fireworks we might see in the "slog" overs. His eighth over goes for five - he has 1-35 so far.

Shak: AB will get 200 today. You heard it here first.

Sorry, Shak. Ollie already called it in the 22nd over. It shows how good ABDV is that he is still on 28 and people are expecting him to get to 200.

  11. SA 138-3published at 02:56 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Thanks, Michael. Morning, everyone - this hasn't quite been the turkey trot that South Africa's fans may have expected. Fahad Alhashmi to continue, while the PA announcer desperately tries to whip up a small crowd, who are made to look even fewer in numbers within such a vast stadium.

It's easy pickings for De Villiers and Miller, who may be pleased to know the TV pictures are showing highlights of his incredible knock in Hamilton against Zimbabwe - which included a six which went out of the ground and bouncing down the road towards a funeral parlour. Four singles from the over.

  12. SA 134-3 (De Villiers 26, Miller 15)published at 02:53 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

This pairing are looking comfortable and ready to unleash. Another six off the over.

So, it is time for me to hand over to Mark Mitchener, who may well be describing an awful lot of runs from the South Africans.

  13. SA 128-3published at 02:50 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

De Villiers, with scores of 162 not out and 77 already in this World Cup, sweeps one away for two as South Africa add five to the total.

"He's a brilliant player, AB de Villiers. Wherever you're watching him from, it's aesthetically pleasing. People talk about Quinton de Kock being in the last chance saloon, they might just stick with him, but there's nowhere to hide at the top of the order."

  15. SA 123-3 (De Villiers 19, Miller 11)published at 02:48 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

We asked if this was the start of the acceleration? Well, it looks like it. De Villiers launches one into the crowd for six over extra cover. Eight off the first three balls. Also worth noting that we have our first dropped catch of the match by a fan.

But instead of going into hiding, the guilty man is then shamelessly speaking to someone on the phone. 'Did you see me on the telly?' Yes, we did. You should have caught it. Must do better.

  16. SA 115-3 (De Villiers 12, Miller 10)published at 02:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2015

Well, Ollie says a double-century is on the cards. Miller is on 10 off 12 and De Villiers 12 off 14. Is this the start of the acceleration. Seven off the over. South Africa picking up the pace.

David Miller is a lucky, lucky man. He wants a single, and slips as he is sent back by AB de Villiers. A direct hit would have seen him gone. However, wicketkeeper Saqlain Haider fumbles the ball and that gives Miller enough time to just about get home.
