"It's been quite a one-sided game - it took 10 overs for the first blow of belligerence from Taylor, and apart from that the batsmen have struggled. Shami and Yadav bewildered the top order. Like facing the West Indies years ago, it must have been quicker than they're accustomed to."

  2. Drinks breakpublished at 02:12 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2015

Zimbabwe pass 50 as Sean Williams skips down the pitch to Jadeja and drives over mid-off for four. Taylor gets a touch fortunate though as he tries some aggression of his own and almost finds the man at long-on. A big dive by Mohammed Shami is in vain as the ball beats him to the rope. Time for drinks.

"Surely if you're one of the eight people who have taken a catch in the 'one-handed crowd catch' competition - you'd buy a ticket to every game in New Zealand and shove people out of the way at the appropriate time?"

Despite what Jeremy Coney says there, Mark Mitchener and I have just been saying that despite being a huge stadium, Eden Park is set among a leafy suburb in Auckland. Go out of the stadium and within yards you're walking down a street of well-kept and spacious houses. Another neat over from Mohit with just three singles.

"When you're at the smaller, boutique grounds in New Zealand, you feel decentralised from the big city grounds like this one - and we've seen some close games at the smaller grounds. In Australia it's tended to be 'win the toss and bat'. Here, the ball has swung more, and there have been some upsets."

"I just wonder whether the better games may have come here in New Zealand because there's been a better balance between bat and ball."

Ravi Jadeja rattles through an over in double-quick time as just the one run is added to the total from his slow left-arm.

  9. Zim 42-3published at 02:00 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2015

Mohit Sharma switches ends and there's more acrobatics on display from Shikhar Dhawan in the field as he dives on one at slip as Williams tries to work the ball down to third man. Mohit seems in a bit of pain though after following through and appearing to get his studs stuck in the pitch. He's back on his feet though and almost gets the wicket of Williams from an inside edge which Dhoni can't quite get his glove to as he dives low to his right. Close.

Another bowling change bizarrely as Ravi Jadeja is on with his slow left arm despite Mohit Sharma grabbing a wicket in his opening over. Taylor sweeps well for four behind square.

"Eden Park isn't filled anywhere near its 45,000 capacity but the Indian fans are certainly making it sound as if it's filled 10 times over. You have to marvel at how much noise a few thousand people can make.

"The small section of Zimbabwe fans that have turned up to cheer on their side are making themselves heard with every run their side scores, but the cheers and whistles that have greeted the loss of early wickets makes it feel at times that the entire stadium is shaking."

  13. Zim 36-3 (Taylor 14, Williams 1)published at 01:53 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2015

Ravichandran Ashwin comes on as India make a double bowling change. Sean Williams is the new batsman in at five for Zimbabwe and he and Taylor have been Zimbabwe's two most consistent run-scorers in this World Cup. They'll need them today to make any kind of decent score. Three off Ashwin's opening over.

"Very much a lack of footwork - the balls before had been shorter and he'd been able to throw the bat at it. This one was pitched much fuller in that corridor of uncertainty, he was stuck and just fished at it."

  15. WICKETpublished at 01:48 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2015

Mohit Sharma comes on to bowl as India make a first bowling change of the day and it's a wicket-taking change. Mire is the man to go as he edges through to Dhoni. It's a dismissal which almost goes unnoticed amid muted celebrations from India. It comes just a few balls after Mire had slashed a ball away outside off for four to the shortish boundary behind square on the off side.

Steev Smith: Possible England team for the 1st Ashes Test 2015... Cook, Compton (or Carberry, Lyth, or Robson), Trott, Bell (or Ballance), Root, Moeen Ali, Buttler, Stokes (or Woakes), Broad, Anderson, Finn (or Plunkett or Tremlett?).

Sure it's a few months away, but only 100 days or so... and counting. England's Test team, this year, REALLY needs to have fire and revenge in its eyes.

  18. Zim 27-2 (run rate 2.70)published at 01:43 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2015

Taylor gets a very welcome boundary for Zimbabwe with an uppish drive over extra cover. He chops a ball down outside off for another couple of runs despite a goalkeeping tip-it-over-the-bar effort from Shikhar Dhawan in the slip cordon to try and take the pace off. End of the mandatory powerplay.

"The tough part for Brendan Taylor was when he started, it was pretty much chaos in the Zimbabwe team, and he's come through all that. I'd go out on a limb and say he's been one of the best performers for Zimbabwe, he's right up there if not right at the top."

If you've not heard, Taylor is retiring from international cricket after this game to join Nottinghamshire as a Kolpak player.

  20. Zim 19-2 (Shami 5-2-8-1)published at 01:39 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2015

Solomon Mire has to show a bit of awareness as he defends on the back foot to a ball from Shami which, just for a second, threatens to bounce back on to this stumps. More decent seam and swing from Shami who has 14 wickets so far in this World Cup - one behind New Zealand's Trent Boult at the top of the charts.
