"The West Indies have to be careful - they might end up chasing 250. It has been disappointing to watch their approach. Even though they were getting plenty of wickets earlier, there was not much enthusiasm. Lots of the fielders are strolling around and not showing much energy. Most teams at this World Cup have looked happy to be here, I wouldn't say that about the West Indies today."

More dross and this time it's the previously miserly Samuels. He tosses one up outside off stump and Javed smears it through deep point. Five dots to follow. 10 overs to go, they'll be looking to get 200 and a few here now.

David: Awful from West Indies, skip has led by example but team is flat as a pancake. Quarter-final place at stake! Need run rate.

  5. Javed 50published at 00:56 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Aziz is awake again and peppering the boundaries with two fours in a row. The first is pulled through midwicket, the second past deep fine leg. Very little effort from the Windies' fielders to chase either of them. No chance of stopping this one as Javed cracks a slower ball from Roach through the covers for four. That's his fifty and the 100-run partnership. With the Windies looking so fragmented, and missing Chris Gayle, we could have a match on our hands here.

    BBC Test Match Special statistician

"Holder's bowling figures of 10-1-27-4 are the best by a West Indies captain in a World Cup match and the fourth best by any captain in the tournament.

"The previous best by a West Indies captain was 3-21 by Darren Sammy against Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2011.

"Pakistan's Shahid Afridi leads the way after taking 5-16 and 5-23 against Kenya and Pakistan respectively in 2011, with Kapil Dev taking 5-43 for India against Australia in 1983."

This is Aziz's first ever World Cup innings, so doubly well played sir. He's clearly still soaking up his achievement because he allows Samuels another maiden. The occasional offie has figures of 6-3-13-0.

"That is a terrific effort from the little fella Aziz. It all seemed to be falling apart for the UAE when he came in. But he has done extremely well, digging in and working hard for his runs. At the start he probably just wanted to get to 10."

  9. Aziz 50published at 00:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

The intensity has gone from the Windies. Kemar Roach is brought back into the attack and immediately sends down a leg stump half-volley that Javed puts away for four. A short ball is top-edged skywards but it's over the wicketkeeper's head and lands safely. Then Aziz tickles a single to leg to bring up his first fifty in ODI cricket from 70 balls. Well played sir.

  10. UAE 125-6 (Aziz 47, Javed 41)published at 00:44 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

The Windies are doing their utmost to step up the over rate here. Samuels races through four dot balls before Aziz paddles one for four to move within three of his fifty.

"It has been a tidy few overs for the West Indies but they need the breakthrough. It is a good phase - sometimes you can't blaze the ball in but create pressure with dot balls."

  12. UAE 121-6published at 00:40 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Sammy has been taken out of the firing line here. He's been sent to long-on to have a sulk. Tight over from Smith. It's been a good fightback from the UAE but the scoreboard is going nowhere at the moment.

  13. UAE 118-6 (Aziz 41, Javed 40)published at 00:38 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Samuels rattles through his second maiden over. It will be interesting to see whether Sammy gets another bowl after his hissy fit.

Aashish: Holder laying down the law to a sulking Sammy - good on you!

  15. UAE 118-6published at 00:35 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Signs of petulance from the Windies here. Sammy is taken out of the attack after one over and reacts by completely ignoring a ball that is thrown towards him in the field. Holder walks over and the duo exchange words. Really poor that from the ex-skip but well handled by young Holder.

Dwayne Smith runs in for his dibbly-dobblers and sneaks one past the outside edge of Javed's bat.

  16. UAE 116-6 Aziz 40, Javed 39)published at 00:31 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2015

Javed leans back and late-cuts Marlon Samuels for four more. The bowler frowns and chews his gum slightly more vigorously than usual. I think that qualifies as a full-on rage from this most languid of characters.

Very flat at the minute from the Windies as we pause for drinks. Ebony suggests another Curtly Ambrose rollicking could be in order.

"West Indies did not ring the changes early enough in my opinion - I would have liked to see the spinners come on earlier. They are just going through the motions. But fair play to UAE, it could have looked horrendous early doors but they have settled down."

Sammy's not as quick as the four frontline seamers. And his short ball is easily pulled away by Aziz. Jerome Taylor is on his toes though, sweeping round the boundary to keep them to two runs. Jason Holder and bowled himself out and Taylor only has two overs left so the Windies really need one of their other bowlers to come to the party here.
