"It's been a good start for the Aussies so I've got a bit of a spring in my step. Given bowling is Pakistan's strength I was a little bit surprised then didn't bowl first. They could have controlled the Australian score and been in the game at the halfway point. Shane Watson's catch set the tone and the fielding has been high quality."

Pakistan have the lowest run rate of any of the major nations in the first ten overs at this tournament - this period of the game has been a real problem for them. Sohail blocks out four deliveries to take the sequence of dot balls to ten before he collects two with a back-foot push to third man.

Michael Clarke smells blood now. Three slips and a gully for Starc - this is like the field on the first morning of a Test match. Misbah knows he has a repair job on his hands and advancing the run rate is the least of his concerns at the moment. The unflappable skipper watches two fizzing short balls from Starc whistle inches past his nose to conclude a maiden over.

  5. Pkn 26-2 (Haris 4, Misbah 1)published at 04:00 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

The reprieved Misbah is off the mark with a single off his pads.

  6. Close! Pkn 24-2published at 03:59 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

It's all happening in Adelaide! Hazlewood finds Misbah's leg stump via a deflection off the thigh pad and his arm is aloft in celebration - but his celebrations are cut short as the bail remains in the groove. The stumps were flashing, but Misbah survives.

"It's another good slip catch. Shehzad went for the ball outside the off stump and wasn't near the pitch. The celebration was huge, so much so that Brad Haddin seems to be limping.

"It's not the most powerful line-up and it seems Pakistan must not be too greedy to ensure they get through the 50 overs. Misbah is a key man and he's in already in the sixth over."

And there's another! This time it's Shehzad, walking down the track at Hazlewood to play the big shot, but his feet are rooted in concrete and a thick edge flies to second slip, where Michael Clarke takes a good catch.

  9. Pkn 24-1published at 03:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Haris Sohail is the new man and he's off the mark in style, flaying Starc over a leaping point fieldsman for four.

"That's a good catch. It was a fine edge and it almost bisected first and second slip. Watson took responsibility, he had to dive to his right and took it no more than two or three inches off the ground. Just when Sarfraz was starting to look a bit dangerous he's gone."

Gone! The dangerous Sarfraz is back in the hutch early and Mitchell Starc has another wicket. The opener pulls Starc for the first boundary of the innings but next ball Starc has his revenge, sliding one across Sarfraz and inducing him to fence one to second slip, where Shane Watson dives full-length to his right and snaffles it at full stretch. What a catch!

"I don't think Pakistan will be too bothered about being pinned down at this stage. India were happy to go at four an over for about 20 overs yesterday in the knowledge that they had the men who could accelerate. That's not quite the case for Pakistan but they do need to keep wickets in hand."

  13. Pkn 13-0 (Shehzad 5, Sarfraz 4)published at 03:47 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Sarfraz pinches a single to third man off Hazlewood's first ball. His partner Shehzad is not afraid to wander down the track to the Aussie bowlers, but so far the opener is keeping the big shots in his locker. Rotating the strike is crucial in this early period of the innings but Shehzad is struggling to find a single, allowing Hazlewood to build a bit of pressure. Just one off the over.

Mitchell Starc's record for this tournament is 16 wickets at an average of 8, with 10 of those wickets coming bowled. He is the man in red-hot form for Australia. Sarfraz is finally off the mark with a two off his legs to long leg.

  17. Pkn 6-0 (Shehzad 2, Sarfraz 0)published at 03:41 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Josh Hazlewood, who some sage judges were surprised to see named ahead of Pat Cummins for this match, opens up from the other end. A bit of early nibble for the young quickie. Shehzad looks cautious early on, but he gets off strike with another single to third man.

Early aggression from Hazlewood when Sarfraz drops a forward defensive at his feet and the young bowler hurls it past him to Brad Haddin. Haddin's not catching that one though, wide down leg from Hazlewood and it runs to the rope for four leg byes.

  19. Pkn 1-0published at 03:35 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2015

Ahmed Shehzad is off the mark straight away with a single to third man. Not such a comfortable start for Sarfraz, who plays outside a straight one from Starc and is a coat of varnish away from losing his off stump. Sarfraz looks around and is amazed not to hear the death rattle behind him, Starc can't believe it either, hands on head in anguish. Could that be a big moment in the match?
