England all-rounder Ravi Bopara:, external Good luck England in the opening game and the World Cup.

Now, we have no confirmed team news for England v Australia, but a LOT of people are taking this tweet to mean that the rumours that Bopara has been dropped (presumably for Gary Ballance) may be true...

Anderson is trying to hit the cover off every ball he faces. Malinga has come back reasonably well though, mixing up his pace to good effect and conceding just four singles.

  4. More from Moorespublished at 01:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Here's more from England coach Peter Moores on BBC Radio 5 live earlier tonight, looking ahead to their game with Australia (03:30 GMT):

"When you work with any team, it's the capacity of that team to play aggressive cricket. I think in the team we can attack from a lot of different positions. We need to play well, but from the top of the order, the quality of Bell and the way Moeen Ali plays I think gives us a very aggressive start to the game with the bat.

"We've got good players all the way throughout. We can take the game away from the opposition, and bowling wise we've got experience at the top of the order with Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad hopefully to take wickets.

"We've got areas to work on, try and get wickets in the middle overs and at the end of the innings to be able to have clear plans, but we're excited about that and the challenge going forward."

New Zealand have scored more heavily than any other ODI side in the last ten overs of the innings since October 2012. But they're still struggling to find their mojo against Suranga Lakmal, who is continuing to bowl a McGrath-esque nagging line and length. Anderson eventually gets one to the fence though, waiting for a slightly wide ball and bludgeoning it through the covers.

A much better over from Malinga to conclude the powerplay. He restricts Elliott and the bristling Anderson to four singles.

Corey Anderson gets a big slice of luck when an under-edge off Lakmal somehow evades the timbers on the way to the fine-leg boundary. Despite being fresh to the crease, these two are showing real determination to maximise these powerplay overs, though not necessarily marrying it with finesse.

"Former New Zealand batsman John Wright used to be one of the most popular players on the English county circuit as he played for Derbyshire in the days when you could sign two overseas players but only play one of then. They had Wright and Michael Holding. So when you saw John Wright turn up, every opposition player was delighted to see him, even though he'd probably take a hundred off you."

Lasith Malinga, who was expensive in his first spell, is recalled to the attack. And his below-par day continues with an ugly wide outside off. And another one. And another one. The man famed for the laser-guided accuracy of his yorkers has mislaid his radar thus far.

Elliott locates the rope for the first time, as he gets a sweep very fine to the fine leg boundary. And Anderson gets in on the act too, muscling the ball down the ground to long-off, where substitute fielder Dinesh Chandimal can't take a tricky catching opportunity and succeeds only in palming the ball over the rope for six.

"Sri Lanka may be regretting the fact they didn't play Senanayake. Now this is interesting - Malinga took his hat off, thinking that he usually bowls during the powerplay. But instead, Sri Lanka are not going to go the orthodox route - they are going to stay with Dilshan for another over and keep pace off the ball."

Grant Elliott, sporting a bushy beard to rival a Russian aristocrat these days, gets off the mark with a cover drive. Anderson is away too, with a punch through the same area. Plenty of rebuilding for these two to do if they're to get New Zealand up to an imposing total.
