Richie Macca: This England team is like me: Not very good in the morning.

Howard Horner: OK, I know we should judge him on the bowling, not batting... But when do we start questioning Broad's place in the team?

  2. Eng 370-9 (Jordan 5*, Anderson 8*)published at 16:14 British Summer Time 14 April 2015

Can England last the 50 or so minutes until lunch? Chris Jordan hasn't made it up the other end yet - he's exclusively faced his former Barbados team-mate Jason Holder so far. He finally rotates the strike with a single to mid-on, leaving Holder two deliveries to bowl to Anderson. He ducks a bouncer, before unleashing a perfectly-timed on-drive for four.

Anderson has eight - more importantly, he's three behind Sir Ian Botham's record total of 383 Test wickets for England.

Maddy Raman: Why do England insist on the conservative approach? All a nightwatchman does is lose momentum and cause wickets to tumble.

Fenners: Is it just me or does Buttler still have a lot to prove at international level?

Tony: Other people may see doom, I see opportunity. Few wickets yesterday, lots this morning; a good time for England to field.

  4. Eng 361-9published at 16:08 British Summer Time 14 April 2015

Clearly it was my fault for suggesting earlier today that 500 was possible for England... James Anderson, playing his 100th Test, is the last man for the tourists - and their sixth left-hander in the XI. Roach angles one across him which Anderson slashes for four - every run is precious now.

"That really wasn't a very good shot. Stuart Broad can bat - he's got to just get over this issue with the short ball. He can't just roll over as easily as that."

"I dare say Broad was expecting the short one. This England innings has absolutely fallen apart. The wicket of Ian Bell, although it wasn't celebrated with much verve and vigour last night, has given the West Indies a real fillip - they've been all over England this morning."

  7. WICKETpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 14 April 2015

Stuart Broad is the third man to make a duck in this innings as he reaches for a wide ball - his third - and is pouched at backward point. England have lost four wickets for four runs, and the drinks break has struck.

Would you wear a helmet if you were a young player coming into the game today?

"Maybe because of the popularity of the helmet, I would have. But for me, the maroon cap was important."

  12. Drinks breakpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 14 April 2015

Stuart Broad is the new batsman, but for now he's the non-striker as the Holder v Jordan duel, made in Barbados, resumes. For now, Holder prevails as Jordan plays out a maiden - and the players have reached drinks.

"We spoke about the bowling coach Curtly Ambrose, and some of that passion has been exercised this morning. They've bowled with discipline, and this is a good comeback. It's West Indies's session so far. Buttler did contribute to that wicket - there was limited foot movement in trying to play that particular shot."

It's all over for Jos Buttler - who falls for an uncharacteristic 22-ball duck as he drives and edges to the keeper.

Buttler is a free-scoring one-day batsman whose ability to "get on with it" straight away caused many people to lament England's decision to send in a nightwatchman ahead of him last night. And as if to prove that hindsight is everything, he's been outscored by Tredwell.

A ring of cover fielders is keeping the squeeze on England - but finally Jordan takes England off the dreaded 357 as he forces a four through the covers. England's first run for 35 balls.

David Hill in Edinburgh: At the moment if England are faced with being bold or negative they will take the negative option, which explains Tredwell as the nightwatchman. They have to break out of this approach.

They have lost Stokes and Tredwell and the batting finishes after Jordan, Broad will be found at square leg and Jimmy can hardly get it off the square so Buttler may as well take it on, but will he be allowed to be bold? 400 in the first innings wins this match.
