"Some of these players played in the World Cup and got panned for their performances. They know they are better Test side, but it still hurts you if you play badly. Whether it's one-day cricket or Tests, you're and England player and England cricket is under the cosh. There's that relief and hopefully they go to Barbados on top of the world and, in the nicest sporting way, crush West Indies."

"If I was saying anything to Jonathan Trott it would be his batting isn't what it was of old. He's on the move before the bowler bowls and that's not good. You're supposed to be still so your eyes are focusing. He's moving and playing across the line which is a recipe for disaster against the new ball with tougher tests to come.

"If he is going to open for England he's going to have to sort that. My gut feeling is the selectors look at his record in the past, are short of opener, and with the captain under a little bit of pressure because Trott's a banker because he's played Test cricket. They will go with him again in Barbados - his main examination will come in England this summer."

  6. Captains' reactionpublished at 21:55 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

England captain Alastair Cook: "It was a slow wicket, so to get 20 wickets was a great tribute to our attitude and character. It's all about putting the ball in the right area - credit to Jimmy, what an outstanding spell that was. I can't fault the lads at all today. The way Joe Root played, him and Gary Ballance are taking run-making to a new level and it's great to see. It's been a lot of hard work and we've got our rewards today."

  7. Captains' reactionpublished at 21:54 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin: "We fought hard but that one session where we lost six wickets really cost us the Test match. That spell from James Anderson this morning really took it away from us. Brathwaite batted well but it would be good if he could have gone on. It's hard to take - four days of hard cricket and we lost it all in one session. England had the conditions in their favour. Jason Holder has a slight injury but hopefully he can be back for Barbados."

  8. Man of the matchpublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

England batsman Joe Root is named man of the match.

He says: "It feels a lot better having the win behind us. The way we've applied ourselves over the five days has been great, we've been ruthless and it gives is impetus for the summer. There's so many positives for s to take and we're all champing at the bit to get out there in Barbados.

"I remember the feeling of being left out and I never want to have that feeling again so whenever I get the chance I try to be greedy and aspire to get big scores."

"It was a terrific effort by James Anderson. England needed two wickets with the new ball and got three. The one Anderson got Braithwaite with was an absolute rip snorter. He's a crackerjack bowler. After that he bowled one or two more and it got West Indies on the back foot. He got Marlon Samuels and then Shiv Chanderpaul, who is batting for his career now. After West Indies got three down they played some really poor cricket when they were trying to save the game."

Paul Cooper: Well, well, well, didn't see that coming at the start of play, just shows how much one good session can change a game.

Rachel T: That is an early birthday present for me. England bossed it all day long, great for Cook to see it through.

Alastair Cook uproots a stump and salutes the England balcony, fist clenched. The skipper looks like he's derived a huge amount of personal satisfaction from seeing that one through to the close.

It didn't look likely for England this morning, but one good/bad session can turn a Test match. West Indies collapsed this morning in the face of a superb spell of fast bowling by James Anderson. The door was prised ajar, and Cook and Gary Ballance strolled through it.
