"New Zealand have looked under-done and have been exposed because England's bowling looks sharper, with more bounce. It looks like they have come from a series whereas New Zealand haven't."

50 shades of Tay: Stokes won't have the greatest record by the end of his career but clearly has the ability to win games with fearless cricket.

Willis Croft: Wasn't convinced about Stokes, then I was at lords yesterday. Now I see him and Root leading the England team into the next era.

Dave Busfield-Birch: Great game, great atmosphere, wine and I was also very lucky to meet a beautiful woman called Helen. What a day!

Matthew Bennett: This spectacle is unfolding the way it is because of the sheer spirit both teams have played this game in. Fantastic cricket.

It is a switch of ends for Moeen, who twirls away from the Nursery End but continues to suffer at the hands of Anderson, courtesy of a back-foot punch through mid-on for four and then a back-foot fall-away slap through mid-off for another boundary. It is not orthodox but it is effective.

Michelle Garland: I hope this will raise some belief in the team going forward and build some momentum. Big summer ahead.

Carousel Lights: Couldn't bear watching England play over last few years but sounds like I need to get the box on. Quick sharp.

  10. NZ 98-5published at 15:09 British Summer Time 25 May 2015

The Moeen experiment is over as Cook turns to his trusty attack leader, Anderson, who is one short of 400 Test wickets. His namesake would be a good scalp to reach the milestone. It is a fine contest between the two . Corey treats Jimmy with respect.

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

"This pair clearly the last of the qualified batsmen but don't rule out the likes of Craig and Henry to hold up an end for 10 overs or so. England have got a bit of work to do yet."

Former England captain Alec Stewart: I think it's safe to say the engraving on the man of the match medal can read BEN STOKES. Exciting talent who must be allowed to play his way.

Stokes continues to cause problems with deliveries that are darting up off a length. He clatters the handle of Watling's bat with another. In the crowd, there is a father with his young baby strapped to his front and his pint in his hand, oblivious that the nipper is desperately trying to reach the beer, which is just out of range. I feel your frustration young un.

Ben Lovett: Stokes having a storming Test match making us all forget about KP, probably can't use his initials as a brand in the same way..

  16. NZ 94-5published at 15:00 British Summer Time 25 May 2015

This is remarkable from Anderson. He is refusing to lie down and take what England are dishing out. He plants his back knee and swipes a Moeen ball between mid-wicket and mid-on for four.

  19. NZ 85-5 (Target 345)published at 14:57 British Summer Time 25 May 2015

Stokes is on top for three calm balls before Anderson brutally bashes a full ball down the pitch for four. He then has an old-school slog to try and mow one down to cow corner, but there is a man there to stop it. Does Anderson still think the run-chase is on? The way he is playing, he does.

  20. NZ 81-5 (Anderson 14, Watling 23)published at 14:53 British Summer Time 25 May 2015

Watling is providing stubborn resistance against the England tide. He flat bats another Moeen over. It gives Anderson and Stokes another chance to go toe-to-toe.
