"Looking on, you'd think that the last session of this Test was being played in the best weather of the match, so bright is the sunshine. Don't be fooled. The rugged up spectators tell you how cold it is, the wind howls around, rocking the floodlights of the rugby ground."

That leg bye shows the England pair have confidence in Wood facing the quick bowler - there's no hint of any farming the strike at this stage. Still plenty of overs to come. Wood confidently leaves the ball outside off stump - not in the Moeen Ali sense - he has survived 21 balls for his unbeaten 12. Maiden over.

Patrick: Why are England fans always so negative? It's looking like a draw against a top team, above us in the rankings that is on a great run of form. I think there's lots to be positive about. Cook looking good, Stokes and Root. Buttler starting to fit in. Jimmy breaking records. We gave it a good go, may (probably not) get a series win, probably will get a draw. Fair result!

Off-spinner Mark Craig, sporting a bright red-framed pair of sunglasses, has no fewer than five close catchers posted for Mark Wood - two slips, silly point, short leg and leg slip. But the number 10 from Durham pushes a two through the covers. There's a moment of tension as one flies past leg slip - but it was off the pad rather than the bat, and they run a leg bye.

The bails have gone flying - but only from the high winds, for those of you fearing an early England dismissal. Might be a time for the "heavy bails" to be used, if they're not in place already. I've even seen County Championship matches played without bails altogether because of wind...

Left-arm paceman Boult is bowling round the wicket in Wasim Akram mode, and Buttler continues his fluent innings with a cover-driven four.

Andy, Nottingham: Potential ammo for both sides of the Bell argument - when Bell plays badly England usually lose!

Wayne Sykes: Bell fails again, that's less than 60 runs in his last eight innings... why do the Bell lovers skirt over the fact that he's becoming more of a liability than an asset, off back to county cricket for a while and make him earn his place back.

Thanks, James. Time for the final session of a gripping series. If this doesn't finish in a New Zealand win, stand by for a thrilling 35 overs.

Leigh Goodwin: No-one is more fickle than an England fan; lauding one Test & lambasting the next. Consistency needed from players & fans alike.

Ell: Lots of negativity, we've drawn the series against a good NZ side. If it was a five-match series we would be licking our chops!

Richie Macca: Check out this flip-flopping from the England fans. Three days ago it was all sweetness and light, today it is hell and damnation.

Another good session for New Zealand, who are now well on the way to deservedly winning this match and squaring the series.

The wicket of Alastair Cook, trapped lbw by the tourists' unlikely destroyer-in-chief Kane Williamson, was crucial, removing the biggest and most dogged obstacle to a New Zealand win.

England's formidably long batting line-up couldn't get them out of trouble, with Moeen Ali and Stuart Broad falling in tame manner. For New Zealand, it was just reward for some excellent bowling and superb captaincy, and they are now just two wickets away...

Dominic Bate: England making this very easy for NZ. Decent bowling but too many giving their wickets away.

Stuart Mitchell: England are weak mentally, too many bad shots being played to balls that they didn't need to play at.

Ray Allger: England's mentality in this Test has been poor. Poor fielding, bowling and now batting. Bayliss has a big job on his hands.

Wood blasts Williamson past mid-off for four. Could England have done with a bit more of that positive intent earlier on today? Anyway, it's time for tea.
