'Sweet Caroline' booms out on the Edgbaston tannoy. Indeed, good times have never seemed so good. Mitchell McClenaghan is the new batsman for New Zealand, and he's away with a clipped two through midwicket. Nathan McCullum needs a new bat, so we'll have a drink.

Josh in Bedford: Seen enough from Rashid in nine overs to know he must start in Cardiff. MATCH WINNER!

Eddie F: Rashid is surely making the selection for the Ashes more difficult! England have a spinning all rounded right there.

Gav, Suffolk: Moeen Ali's Ashes spot is in doubt... Rashid could steal it away if he carries on like this.

"That was the wrong one again from Rashid and it didn't bounce. Henry just misread the line. It was that indecision to the leg-spinner. Tail-enders do not like leggies."

Adil Rashid is knocking them over like ducks at a fairground shooting gallery. Again it's the googly which does the damage, flummoxing Matt Henry and smashing into this front pad. Up goes the finger.

Phil Coulson: I like this new look England, can we keep them?

    Gary Russell: This is fantastic.

Ben Fox: So much love for this young-gun England team.

Matt Henry is the new man, with Nathan McCullum having arrived at the other end. Tell you what, how good is it to see Steven Finn bounding in with a bit of confidence again.

"All credit to Steven Finn. The previous two had been angled down the leg side and it was clearly a plan to try and trap Ross Taylor."

Clipping leg stump is the verdict of DRS, and Taylor has to go. Good delivery from Finn, full and straight, and Taylor played all around it. Good knock from Taylor, but he surely takes New Zealand's slender hopes with him. The Edgbaston crowd is rocking.

Finn raps Taylor on the pad. Given out on the field, Taylor requests another look...

"Rashid has pushed it through a little bit and got his just desserts. It was the wrong one and Ronchi swiped right across the line. I think that is New Zealand done."

Gone! First-baller for Luke Ronchi, and Adil Rashid is flying here! Tossed up, spins back in, beats the swish of Ronchi and crashes into the top of off. What a match the Yorkshire all-rounder is having.

"Superb bowling from Rashid, but don't underestimate the quality of the catch from Jordan. He made it look straightforward but it was a very good catch."

It was coming. Santner decides he has to force the pace against Rashid - he gets one out of the middle and yammers it down the ground, but the next one is off the edge and is safely snaffled by Jordan at slip.

"With the power play still to come it will be interesting to see what New Zealand do. Will they leave it until Ronchi might be in? If they leave it too late it will simply be too much for them."

  15. NZ 179-4 (run rate 6.62)published at 20:14 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Santner is dealing in singles here, which is no good to New Zealand. He's a bit like a young fawn caught in the headlights of a speeding freight train as he confronts this imposing target. However, New Zealand are only 11 runs behind where England were at this stage of the innings.

BenFides: It's nice to be able to 'enjoy' an England one day performance! Don't know what's come over them today!!

Neil Worrall: Aggressive & exciting batting, pace & variety in bowling and athletic, committed fielding - I could get used to this!!

  17. NZ 173-4 (Taylor 52, Santner 8)published at 20:10 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Rashid, who is having an absolutely outstanding match, beats Santner first up with a terrific googly. The next wrong 'un lands a bit short and is picked by the debutant, who cashes in with a much-needed four.

Taylor is going to be OK to carry on. Santner is struggling a bit here - he can only muster a single from the remaining four balls of Stokes's over. New Zealand can't afford for him to take time to get going.

  20. NZ 165-4published at 20:03 British Summer Time 9 June 2015

Ross Taylor is going to get a bit of treatment here. He was turning to make his ground when Eoin Morgan unleashed a shy at the stumps and it hit Taylor on the hand. That looked like it hurt, the glove comes off and Taylor is wringing his mitt.
