Alan Reynolds: Watching the game in Abu Dhabi and the Pakistan crowd have gone very quiet.

  2. Pak 12-2 (Azhar 6, Iftikhar 0)published at 7 overs

We've seen this before from Pakistan, particularly earlier this year at the World Cup - they have a tendency to lose early wickets and retreat into their shell. Which, when you're chasing 284, is a bit of a problem. Iftikhar still looking for his first ODI run.

Warwickshire's Rikki Clarke, now 34, played two Tests and 20 ODIs for England between 2003 and 2006. The 39-year-old he references is the uncapped Rafatullah Mohmand., external

  4. Pak 11-2published at 6 overs

Not much happening for Pakistan at the moment - no sign of a counterpunch, and Topley and Willey not under any pressure. Just a single from Topley's latest over.

"Willey looks like he's cruising up to stumps and not straining. When your rhythm is there you're gliding, not straining. When it clicks it seems effortless and doesn't take much energy out of you."

  7. Pak 10-2published at 5 overs

So debutant Iftikhar is the new man. He sees out his first two deliveries without scoring.

"That's a big wicket. Hafeez has been tormenting England with the bat for the last month. The centurion on Wednesday gone for a duck."

Big wicket! Hafeez has caused England so much grief on this tour but they've dried him up and enticed him into the trap. No runs off Hafeez's first six balls and it tells as he feels desperately for a swinging delivery outside off and gets a feather through to Jos Buttler.

  10. Pak 9-1 (target 284)published at 4 overs

The swing back into the right-handers generated by this left-handed bowling combo is causing a few problems. They're not getting the ball off the middle of the bat at all. A quiet start for Pakistan.

  12. Pak 7-1 (Azhar 2, Hafeez 0)published at 3 overs

So, an immediate setback for the hosts in their pursuit of a daunting target. But the new man is Mohammad Hafeez, who has been a real thorn in England's side on this tour. Just two runs off an excellent over from Willey.

That's a better lbw shout from David Willey - and the umpire's given it! Late swing back into the pads of Babar Azam, and this time the batsman was on the back foot not the front foot. Just the ticket for England - the youngster who played so well last time is back in the hutch.

My question is, should we be concerned that 283-5 is not a good enough score in the ODI format of the game these days, especially after achieving such a good start from Hales and Roy, and taking into consideration that David Warner managed to score 244* on the opening day of a Test match?

  15. Pak 5-0 (target 284)published at 2 overs

Reece Topley, who bowled so well in the first match, opens up from the other end. Azam works him off the back foot for two.

"He was way down the track. It might have been missing the stumps but the umpire would have been guessing."

  17. Pak 2-0 (Azhar 1, Azam 1)published at 1 over

Huge appeal as Willey strikes Azhar on the pad, but he was a long way down the track and the umpire says no. Both batsmen get off the mark with clips into the leg side.

Azhar Ali and Babar Azam are at the crease and David Willey has the ball. 284 to win. Let's go...

Angus Macgregor: Surely Hales has to be given a shot at the opener shot for South Africa. If not now then he's never getting in.

Small Man Peaky: England vs SA. Both teams have X-factor batsmen in Root and de Villiers but Steyn is on a different level to Anderson.

Luke Swales: I'd like to see Nick Compton given another chance. Never deserved the drop in the first place. Played beautifully in NZ.
