  1. Eng 277-5published at 49.3 overs

It's death by slower balls for England. Another one from Anwar Ali and Taylor is through the shot so early he's practically eating tomorrow's cornflakes by the time the ball eventually gets to him. Taylor and Moeen scramble a single apiece.

"You'd want one of your batsmen to be set by now, going into the last over, but England have two new batsmen in."

Andy Wilson: Given some credit to the Pakistani bowlers, this is excellent death bowling.

Dom Ford: Wahab Riaz has been immense all tour so far #pace.

  4. Eng 275-5published at 49 overs

Taylor clips a single into the leg side.

Eoin Morgan is dismissedImage source, Getty Images

"Another one where Irfan rolled his wrists over it, if Morgan had waited a fraction longer that ball would have gone out of the park, but it just stopped on him. 300 was very much on five or six overs ago, but England now need to just take what they can from the last seven deliveries."

England are desperately pressing the accelerator but the wheels are spinning and they're sinking further into the mud. Morgan tries to launch one from Irfan but again it's a slower ball, the batsman doesn't time and it falls into the breadbasket of Azam.

"The key here is for Morgan to get as much of the strike as possible. His eyes will be adjusted under the lights."

  8. Eng 272-4 (Morgan 28, Taylor 1)published at 48.2 overs

So, England resist the temptation to bring in a biff specialist like David Willey and instead opt for James Taylor. He gets off the mark with a single into the covers.

Jos Buttler is dismissedImage source, Getty Images

"He'll be frustrated at that. He moved to the leg side trying to work it to leg, but Wahab Riaz has bowled a couple of those brilliant slower balls. Buttler tried to do what he could for the team but wasn't really in the right position there."

    Buttler b Wahab 11 (Eng 270-4)

Wahab is much better at hitting the stumps from the full 22 yards away with an England batsman in his way. Another slower ball deceives Jos Buttler and bowls him off his pads. This is a super finish from Pakistan.

"There was a breakdown in communication there, both batsmen were in the middle of the pitch."

  12. Eng 270-3published at 47.3 overs

Goodness me, Buttler really should have been run out there. He does brilliantly to get down and stop the ball and with Buttler committed to the single, all he has to do is hit the stumps - but he fires wide! Had all the time in the world there...

"Buttler may need runs but he's playing for the team here, still trying to be innovative."

Steve Rowedder: Currently feeling we needed at least 320 on a track like this could be an interesting chase.

Russell Anderson: England doing their usual bang-up job of the last 10 overs. If they lose this game that'll be why.

  15. Eng 266-3 (Morgan 25, Buttler 9)published at 47 overs

That's what Jos Buttler is there to do - he lines up Irfan and dismissively smashes him to the mid-off boundary for four. An attempted scoop off the next ball fails. Irfan is finding the blockhole with regularity here and all Morgan and Buttler can do is scramble ones and twos.

In a bit of a dilemma here, would like Hales to do well because he seems like a decent bloke however slightly hoping he fails so he doesn't get ripped apart at the top of the order against the might of South Africa.

So Jos Buttler is promoted up the order - can he bludgeon his way back into form? Always easier said than done. He gets off the mark with a single to deep cover, but Wahab's over is another excellent one, from which England can only scrag one run. Pakistan finishing strongly.

"Wahab Riaz bowls well at the death. He rolled his wrists over that one, but Root didn't keep his eye on the ball, and he'll be frustrated. This situation is almost made for Jos Buttler as there are wickets in hand so he'll have licence to bring a few fireworks to the party."

That could be a crucial momentum-stopper for Pakistan - Wahab's cleverly disguised slower ball completely foxes Root and pegs back leg stump.
