"Modern players catch those 97 times out of 100. That is potentially very significant."

I think of Derek Pringle, Ian Salisbury, Richard Dawson, Jade Dernbach and in more recent years Chris Woakes as purveyors of the most inept, ineffective tripe for bowling that I have ever had the pain of beholding in England colours... What do England selectors see in Woakes that few others do?

    Pak 111-2

How costly could that be? Alex Hales has shelled an absolute dolly. Flicked high into the leg side by Hafeez, Hales doesn't have to move on the boundary, he gets his hands up high but the ball slips out the back door. To add insult to injury, it trickles almost mockingly over the boundary for four.

"They're going like a train, they've reached 100 inside 14 overs, but they have lost two wickets ago. An hour ago the Pakistan coach Waqar Younis looked very miserable, he looks better now."

    Pak 105-2 (Hafeez 25, Azam 18)published at 14 overs

Hafeez is looking ominous here. An attempted slower ball from Topley is read as easily as a Biff and Kipper early learning book and smashed over cow corner for six. Azam then leathers Topley to the long-off boundary with a horizontal bat.

  6. Pak 91-2 (target 356)published at 13 overs

Eoin Morgan decides to take some pace off the ball and introduces Moeen into the attack. He receives a rude welcome from Babar Azam, who wallops his first ball through the covers.

"That was beautifully played, thumped over the top by Hafeez who scored a century in the first ODI."

  8. Pak 84-2published at 12 overs

Boom! Lovely shot from Hafeez, gets hold of Woakes and hoists him straight over the top for a lovely one-bounce four. Woakes's four overs so far have gone for 30, he's under a bit of pressure here.

Howard Horner: Wonderful to hear about Buttler's 100. After the problems he's been having in Tests, he looks so liberated in the shorter forms!

Tom Radley: Amazing innings from Buttler, maybe he should try and bat aggressively in Tests as well!

  10. Pak 77-2 (Hafeez 12, Azam 5)published at 11 overs

Hafeez tormented England in the Test series, and he could yet spoil their ODI party. He swipes Willey off his pads and it races away for four.

Can anyone do better than this to sum up Jos Buttler's innings in one image?

  12. Pak 71-2 (target 356)published at 10 overs

England have the opportunity to put the pressure on Pakistan here, with two new batsmen at the crease. It's a good over from Woakes, just three singles off it.

"There will be chances when you're trying to score at eight or nine an over in the first 10 overs, and Willey seems to be the man who is holding his nerve."

  14. Pak 68-2published at 9 overs

There was a comedic moment there as Willey threw the ball up in celebration but sent it straight up rather than behind him, forcing the fielders joining him in jubliation to take cover as the the ball returned to earth. Babar Azam is the new man and he gets off the mark by edging Willey past first slip for four.

Big wicket! Azhar Ali was firing on all cylinders but David Willey has ended his explosive innings: slower ball, Azhar chips it back and Willey scoops up the return catch.

"England are going to need to bowl a few more cutters and vary it a bit, as they know Pakistan will be coming at them."

  17. Pak 60-1published at 8 overs

A better finish to the over from Woakes, conceding just a solitary single off the last three balls.

  18. 6 runs

    Pak 59-1published at 7.3 overs

Red lights flashing for England. Azhar Ali looks very, very dangerous. He clambers all over a short ball from Chris Woakes and muscles it over the ropes at midwicket. And Woakes's next ball is diverted off the pads for four. England leaking...
