Moeen Ali back on, and Pakistan nurdle him around. Once again they try and rebuild, and the crowd noise begins to rise again.

"It would have been a brilliant catch. It was hit pretty hard and he just dived to his head and flung a hand out."

  3. Pak 240-6published at 34 overs

    Need 116 off 96

Morgan has one of those chances that will go down as  drop, purely because of his own athleticism which got him to the ball in the first place. He couldn't do much more than just parry Sarfraz away at short midwicket.

Swing the Slipper. It involved a rope tied around a slipper, which an adult would swing round and you had to jump over it. No? Just me?

  4. Pak 231-6published at 33 overs

    Need 125 off 102 balls

There's a long delay as a rope is dragged round the outfield to try and lift a bit of dew from the grass. Each England fielder gets a cheer as they skip over the rope like a game of Swing the Slipper. (Please tell me other people played that?)

Topley's over resumes and the atmosphere, which had an excited buzz about it, has just been deflated a touch.

"I'm beginning to get the impression that Alex Hales drops the easy ones and catches the difficult ones. He's taken two screamers and that's the best of the lot. I think that's a match-winning catch."

The key wicket! Once again it's Hales who gets under it, tearing up a lot of ground, and diving low to hold on. Malik opened his shoulders at a leg-side delivery from Topley, and didn't get all of it. The England celebrations show they know Pakistan's main hopes lay with Malik.

  7. 50 runs

50 for Shoaib Malikpublished at 32 overs

    Pak 227-5

Good over for Pakistan, that. Ten off it, a batsman's 50, and some buzzers to boot.

Malik celebrates his half-century off 31 balls with a perfunctory acknowledgement of the applause ringing around the ground in Dubai. He looks a picture of concentration.

England miss a run-out chance as Morgan shies at the stumps, but Pakistan end up going through for an extra overthrow.

"No one is going home early here at the moment. There's an astonishing amount of runs being scored and this chase is still on."

    Target 356

Intriguing section of the game here. Pakistan know they can't afford to lose another wicket, but need to keep scoring at seven per over. Topley's over is nurdled around and the game keeps simmering along.

"Pakistan have kept up with the rate, but the worrying figure with them is the wickets column."

"There's life in the old dog yet", says Aggers on TMS, as Pakistan fight, well, doggedly, to keep this game alive.

  13. Pak 200-5published at 29 overs

Pakistan need 150 from 21 overs

I know bats are getting more brittle, but I've never seen anything like that before. Sarfraz tooked to mow Topley's first delivery into the off-side, and his bat broke at the handle. It would have ended up around the umpire at square leg, had not a solitary piece of unravelling twine kept the two parts connected.

A bit more intensity about Pakistan's running between the wickets now as they bring up the 200, and once again Malik gets a boundary off the final delivery of the over. Infuriating thing for the bowler, when a batsman does that. Particularly in the second innings when you're aware of the run rate.

Adil Rashid is a game changer! As seen in the Test matches was very close to bailing England out. Why not play him in the SA tour give the bloke a chance one Test series doesn't prove what a player is!

  15. Pak 197-5 (Sarfraz 3, Malik 30)published at 28 overs

    Need 159 from 142 balls

England buzzing round the field now. They know that wickets are the way they'll win this match. Nine off the over, but crucially that wicket for Rashid.

For what it's worth, after 28 overs, England were 146-1. But England had Jos Buttler still to come.

"That was a good ball from Rashid. It turned and definitely took the edge. It's a timely wicket. One moment the ball was in the stands, the next a wicket was falling."

Rashid's first ball was sent for six, but Rashid came back in, the ball turned, and made its way through to Buttler's gloves via Rizwan's edge.

Good sharp keeping from Buttler. He's had worse days for England.

  18. Pak 185-4published at 27 overs

Pakistan need 168 from 148 balls

While Malik is still there, there's still hope for Pakistan. Once again he dispatches the last delivery of the Woakes over for a boundary to help his side keep up with the required run rate.

  19. Pak 182-4 (Rizwan 4, Malik 25)published at 26 overs

Pakistan need 174 from 144 balls

That wicket has given England a much-needed boost, and you can tell it from the body language of the fielders.

Six off Rashid's over, but with a new batsman in, England will have been delighted to see the back of Azam.
