Missing off, missing leg, crashing into the middle of middle. Kyle Abbott is plumber than Plumby McPlumb, winner of last year's Mr Plumb contest on the planet Plumb. Ben Stokes does the trick for England, who will still hope that South Africa can be done for under 400.

Kyle Abbott, do not waste your time. This is stone dead from Ben Stokes, swinging back to take all the poles. We'll look, just to humour him...

"That is Abbott's highest Test score, beating his previous best of 14, and it is also the 50 partnership, coming off 52 balls."

"De Kock has a real gift, he has a natural ability to play shots and Abbott is doing a good job, frustrating for England."

There she goes! Kyle Abbott is in on the act, dancing to loft Moeen over mid-wicket for a maximum. We've always been told that Abbott can bat, but he's previously looked like a man who has never played before. Now De Kock too! It's a horrible pie from Moeen, a long hop that gets pulled into the swimming pool at mid-wicket. Now a cut for four too. 18 from the over. England need a drink.

India are 173-2 after 27 overs in pursuit of 331 to beat Australia in Sydney and avoid a 5-0 whitewash in the one-day series.

Shikhar Dhawan made 78 from 56 balls, while Rohit Sharma is 67 not out after seeing Virat Kohli fall for eight.

Australia's 330-7 - the fourth time they have passed 300 in the series - was built around David Warner's 122 and Mitch Marsh's unbeaten 102 off 84 balls.

Ben Stokes for the first time, immediately frustrated as Abbott flashes past second slip for four. Then an appeal as an inswinger hits the front pad. Nothing doing. This stand is becoming an annoyance for England - it's already worth 28.

Ooohhh, what a nice way to bring up a half-century. A deft cut for four takes Quinton de Kock to a comeback fifty. Back in the side after that freak knee injury, that's his third 50+ in his eighth Test. I'm still baffled by the dog-walking injury, though.

TV pictures from before play show Mike Atherton doing the kick-ups of a Cristiano Ronaldo. Did we know that Athers was so skillful with a football? Sir Ian Botham, former Scunthorpe, has the touch of man with lead in his boots. Broad peppers Abbott, who either hides behind an armguard or lunges forward. His survival is looking increasingly more assured.

Oooofff, that's a trimmer from Anderson, swinging away from the lunging Abbott. There's a noise and an appeal, but Abbott is miles away from edging that. Too good for thee, lad. In the crowd, someone has a sign that reads "Quinny, we'll walk the dogs for you". How do you twist your knee walking the dog, anyway?

Lots of company for Abbott. He's like an octogenarian in the Playboy Mansion. Slips, gully and a short leg. He hops around, then lunges forward, with an inside edge just falling short of the livewire James Taylor under the lid. He gets through. Just.
