"Quinton de Kock is at his best when he plays like this, when he has got a bit of licence. You guys have Ben Stokes, we have De Kock!"

De Kock is on de charge. This time Anderson is driven back down the ground for four. England fielders are scattering everywhere, with a slight bias to the leg side. De Kock was caught at square leg in the second Test. A sweet crunch to the man on the leg-side fence brings De Kock a single, with Abbott just about surviving the one ball left.

Nice to have the staff from Surrey with us this morning. How's things at The Oval? Any gossip? Is KP back with you this summer?

Seatbelts. De Kock takes Broad, who is round the wicket, for back-to-back boundaries, this time square on the off side. Will the keeper try to farm the strike? He pinches a single from the fourth ball of the over. It would be a very tricky, and probably dangerous, if England got sucked into the old 'give him a single' plan.

Geoffrey, as ever, is right. England have got the rewards this morning for pitching the ball up. You know how I said De Kock would play some shots? He flashes Broad's first ball over the slips for four.

"England have got everyone from Uncle Tom Cobley in the dressing room coaching them. It’s not rocket science to speak to all the bowlers to pitch it up. Every time they have done that they have made it difficult for the batsmen."

So South Africa have lost 2-1 in five balls and that could have been even worse had Stokes held De Kock. All of sudden, England will be thinking of bowling out the Proteas for 360. That would be a very good effort. Kyle Abbott the new man. Expect Quinton de Kock to play some shots.

"I'm glad for Jimmy because although I have been saying he is not at his best I want him to get rhythm like the great bowler he is and that will do him the world of good. He zipped that in quicker and hit him before he could get the bat down."

Gone! England are on the charge on the second morning and Kagiso Rabada has a golden duck. James Anderson, maligned yesterday, has had a catch dropped and has now produced a rozzer of an in-ducker to do for Rabada. Crushing the toes right in front, no bat to save Rabada. A good decision from umpire Chris Gaffaney, who is vindicated and raises the finger once more.

And another! Or is it? Kagiso Rabada has been given out lbw to a James Anderson yorker. But what's it hit first? Bat or foot? Rabada wants another look.

Looking again, Broad just rolled his fingers over that one, like a little leg-cutter. It angled in, then held its line off the pitch. Kagiso Rabada, who has looked good with the bat in this series, has been promoted up the order to number eight.

This time! England do make the breakthrough, with Temba Bavuma on his way back. It's a good line from Broad, just drawing Bavuma into a shot that he probably didn't need to play. A thin edge goes through to Jonny Bairstow, who tumbles forward to take the catch. After that dropped chance, England still manage a precious early breakthrough.

Dropped! It would have been a blinding catch from Ben Stokes, but Quinton de Kock is dropped off James Anderson. Widiesh, swinging away, De Kock playing a drive. It flies to gully, where Stokes may be just a tocuh too close. He throws up a right hand, but only parries it down. A big missed opportunity.
