Visually impaired England cricketer Hassan Khan: "When I'm watching cricket on TV, if Joe Root cuts the ball I know he's cut it just by the sound. Our ball has ball bearings in, it sounds like an annoying rattle. Whenever it's hit I have to react as quick as possible, from about five yards away. People have been putting pressure on me because of James Taylor's performances."

Visually impaired England cricketer Hassan Khan: "Some people call me insane and say that I clearly don't have any morals because of where I field - I'm a short square-leg fielder. The ball is hit extra hard in our game, my job is purely to stop the boundaries or to get something on it.

"I do wear a helmet. But a West Indian guy hit me and my visor fell off, I just stood there. I was OK, but the next ball hit me in the exact same place. That's what our game is all about."

"It was wonderful cricket, we've had so many good sessions. Anderson coming out and bowling so well, that was the real Jimmy. Broad bowled well and it has been good, but Amla has batted beautifully, caressed the ball, he just looks quality. All those innings where he didn't make a run have disappeared."

That's the break. A good session for England, but South Africa still well ahead in the match. It would need something special from the tourists after lunch if they are to have a chance on this increasingly naughty pitch. Maybe James Anderson can be revved up again? Maybe he'll be behind AB de Villiers in the lunch queue? Duck on the menu...

In contrast to Broad, this is Stokes' 10th over in his spell, and probably the last before the break. Bavuma, now with an armguard that we think he has borrowed from Morne Morkel, is shutting up shop.

Moeen Ali for what is likely to be the penultimate over before lunch. Four catchers for Bavuma, who jumps around to squeeze a single. Stuart Broad hasn't been seen much this morning, has he? Only seven overs in the entire innings for the world's number one bowler.

  15. Highest fourth-innings chases to win in Centurionpublished at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2016

    • 251-8: England beat South Africa, 2000
    • 226-4: South Africa beat Sri Lanka, 1998
    • 199-3: South Africa beat Pakistan, 2007
    • 124-7: South Africa beat Sri Lanka, 2002

  16. SA 119-4published at 10:24

Just to reiterate that point about successful chases at Centurion, the side batting last has only won on six occasions. Five of those were South Africa and their highest chase is 226. England's 251 to win in South Africa was the 'leather jacket Test'. So, in non-fixed matches at Centurion, the team batting last only wins if a) they are South Africa and b) the target isn't over 226.

Hashim Amla won't get many more valuable half-centuries than this. He's had to dog it out in tough conditions against a very good attack, all while taking blows, particularly to his right thumb. He gets to a 29th Test fifty by fending a brutal lifter from Ben Stokes. England don't really want to see the ball jumping like that.

"Anderson bowled so well last night and this morning that I'd be inclined to get Woakes off and see if he can't get a couple of overs before lunch and get Bavuma out. Bavuma just played a perfect little push drive  - the ball whistled away."

It's hot out there, hot enough for a haze to rise from the ground. Woakes continues with what is looking increasingly like a forlorn spell, allowing Bavuma a cover drive for four. The lead goes to 250, That might already be too many. In fact, the highest successful chase in a Test on this ground is 251. And that match was fixed.
