  1. SA 247-7published at 48 overs

Kyle Abbott is the new batsman, but he is not in the team for his batting, he has a best of 23. The first camera shots of beautiful women in the crowd. The South Africa TV producers seem to have two default settings, attractive ladies or corpulent, sun-burned tourists. Thankfully we have not seen the latter yet.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"It's sometimes a burden to bowl at the end, but sometimes you can pick up wickets when batsmen are swinging. I have a funny feeling it's going to be one of those scores where both teams come off and say 'I'll settle for that'. It's not Bloemfontein."

    Rabada c Morgan b Topley 12 (SA 245-7)

Rabada had collected a four with a thick edge but attempting an extravagant drive to the next ball he gives an easy catch to backward point as Topley's slower ball beats him all ends up. A fourth wicket for the new Hampshire left-arm seamer.

  5. SA 240-6 (Behardien 12, Rabada 8)published at 47 overs

Rabada looks an elegant, laconic batsman, but sadly for him his airy drives are not pinging to the boundary a la DI Gower, they are looping for singles. Willey keeps the boundaries at bay again.

Ade in Bristol: Under 300 could be a great effort by England in modern 50 over game. Only know how good though when England bat.

The fourth consecutive over without a boundary as Topley continues an impressive spell. The batsmen appear in two minds, conscious no doubt of having just Abbott, Morkel and Tahir left, all of whom average 10 or less.

Richard Higgins: SA playing like England of old. Grind out the middle overs and lose two set batsmen for the last 10 overs.

  10. SA 230-6 (Willey 0-27 from 6)published at 45 overs

Kagiso Rabada is the new man, scourge of England in the final Test. He is another left-hander and he gets off the mark with a delightfully fluent push into the off-side for two off the returning Willey. He even leaves one outside the off-stump. A leave, if you please. Only five overs left.

    Rossouw c Buttler b Topley 11 (SA 225-6)

Eoin Morgan congratulates Reece TopleyImage source, Rex Features

A little squiggle shows up on the Ultra Edge and Buttler appeared to complete a superb one-handed low catch to his right. Finally, the decision is reversed and a rueful Rossouw is on his way. No need for him to have changed his gloves at the end of the over now. Topley now has 3-33 from his first six overs.

  12. Umpire reviewpublished at 44 overs

Confusion here, the ball has gone between bat and pad and has been brilliantly caught by Buttler. But is it out? The decision is not out so conclusive evidence of a clean inside edge will be needed.

  14. SA 221-5 (Stokes 2-45 from 8)published at 43 overs

A steady over from Stokes, no boundaries conceded. Both these left-handers average over 30 but not much over, though both have strike-rates in the 90's. Some big hitting to come perhaps?

David Westgarth: Chris Jordan must be the best fielder in international cricket at the moment.

Kieron Bird: Good man Chris Jordan. You've just justified your place in the team.

Chris Knight: Plenty of people having a pop at Chris Jordan, but catches win matches!

  16. SA 216-5published at 42 overs

Captain's example in the field by Morgan at mid-on, his dive, stop and throw almost producing a wicket but he cannot stop a firm on-drive from Rossouw following a Topley full toss which runs away to the fence.

"That wasn't a great decision by umpire Cloete, comfortably missing leg stump, so Duminy's furious as De Kock had already used the review, but England have struck again."

Topley returns and strikes first ball. The South African review had been used of course by De Kock and it was much needed here, the ball shown to be not even clipping but missing leg-stump by the ball tracker.

  20. SA 206-4published at 41 overs

We have two left-handers at the crease now, with Rilee Rossouw the new man. He has made two ODI centuries so he can bat, but how crucial is the departure of AB going to be?
