"South Africa had England under pressure from the off. England found it hard to get runs. At one stage, it could have been South Africa batting before the interval, but Joe Root got England out of a hole."

Perry Veness: 262 all out. Decent recovery but almost certainly not enough. Hope I'm wrong!

Steve Kenyon: I'd have taken 262 an hour ago!!

Peterfeet: Stupid by Broad cost team 20 runs and should be just getting Rashid back on strike.

So overall, a disappointing effort from England. They began well enough, with Alex Hales hitting a fourth consecutive fifty as they eased to 81-1 after 17 overs.

But Hales's wicket set in train a ghastly middle-order collapse as England lost five wickets for 21 runs, with Imran Tahir the destroyer-in-chief.

Joe Root's superb century and handy lower-order cameos from Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid got England up to a respectable score, but South Africa will be very confident of chasing it down at what it usually a high-scoring ground.

"That's a lack of thought from Broad. Topley is such poor number 11 that Rashid is thinking he has to hit fours. England have missed a trick, they could have got a few more runs there."

Rashid c De Villiers b Rabada 39 (Eng 262 all out)

It's all over. Rashid tries to flay Rabada inside-out over the ring but doesn't get enough on it and a sliding AB de Villiers pockets the catch. England have committed the cardinal sin of failing to bat their overs...

"That's not smart. You've got Rashid playing well, all Broad has to do is take singles and give him the strike. He hasn't played in a match for a couple of weeks. You have to play for the man at the other end. That's not good thinking from a senior player."

That's a bit disappointing from Broad - slugging Rabada miles up in the air and finding the safe hands of JP Duminy at long-on. Did he need to do that, with Rashid batting so well? England are in danger of being bowled out...

A great stop by Wiese saves four off the first ball of Abbott's over, but England scamper three anyway to keep the momentum rolling. Rashid lofts Abbott over the covers for two more, and the bowler chucks a couple of wides in for good measure. Eight from the over, a decent one for England considering they didn't hit a boundary.

  10. South Africa women level seriespublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2016

South Africa beat England by five wickets to level the one-day series at 1-1 and set up a decider on Sunday.

England made 262-9, with Heather Knight making 61, but an opening stand of 113 from Laura Wolfvaardt (55), and Trisha Chetty (66) gave South Africa a great platform.

A fourth-wicket stand of 112 from Lizelle Lee (69) and Marizanne Kapp (44) helped the hosts to the verge of victory and then Dane van Niekerk's boundary sealed it with seven balls to spare.

More tap from Rash, rolling his wrists on a bouncer and finding the boundary just behind square leg. And a poor delivery off he last ball makes it a really good over for England - full toss from Rabada, carved over point by Broad for four. The tourists still in sight of a competitive score...

Jeremy Orbell: Joe Root shares his birthday (30 Dec) with Gordon Banks, Tiger Woods and me - not sure I count myself as a sporting legend tho

PD31: The better the tail bat the better the pitch looks and the more inadequate the score seems. Still, it's something to bowl at.

That could be a big blow. Joe Root, who has been looking absolutely exhausted having batted for almost three hours in the thin air, finally falls - trying to ramp scoop Chris Morris over fine leg but not getting enough on it to beat Tahir. A superb innings, but that could be a significant blow to England's hopes of making a really competitive score here.

Bowser: Where on earth would England be without Joe Root? Incredible batsman. Hero

Stuart Mitchell: Joe Root, a Cricketing God amongst Mortals. Brilliant once again.

James Brandon: Joe Root has made a ton. I also predict the sun will rise tomorrow.

Now then, can Root cut loose, footloose, kick off his Sunday shoes? Geez Louise, that's a decent start, belting Tahir over deep midwicket for four. And then he improvises brilliantly, transforming a paddle sweep into a sort of reverse flip that earns him two. That's Tahir done for the day - he's played an excellent, perhaps match-winning hand.
