Perry Veness: Anyone got 20 rand for the meter?

Rakesh Pradhan: England finally find a way of stopping Quinny de Kock scoring.

Kumaran Ravendradas: Duckworth Lewis due to floodlight failure?

The lights are slowly coming back on. There must be an emergency generator somewhere - or else AB de Villiers is having to frantically pedal an exercise bike in a hidden backroom. You'd think this delay might work in England's favour...

  5. Floodlight failurepublished at 16:34

As Paddy McGuinness says at the end of Take Me Out, it's lights out, all out. Someone's foot has snagged on a cable up in the technical box, and the floodlights have gone off suddenly. The players troop off and we're going to a have a short delay.

"England are going to have to take wickets. You cannot win here at the Bullring unless you take wickets."

  7. SA 52-1published at 10 overs

Still England captain Eoin Morgan resists the temptation to go to spin, despite Imran Tahir's success earlier in the match. Instead it's Ben Stokes to inject a bit of fire and fury into proceedings. Unfortunately it's not directed at South Africa's batsmen - Jason Roy can't stop Du Plessis's low square drive at backward point and gets a volley. 50 partnership up for South Africa...

Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match Special

"I like Chris Woakes as a cricketer but it's almost like his action is too good, perhaps too predictable, so that the batsman knows what is coming."

  9. SA 45-1 (De Kock 22, Du Plessis 22)published at 9 overs

Chris Woakes is the man summoned by Eoin Morgan to turn the tide, and he has a point to prove, having been left out of the squad for the World T20. We all know Woakes's strengths, he's got an action as repeatable as a good Dad's Army episode and he's added a lick of pace, but can he run through a top order when the pressure is on? Not a great start - leg-side freebie off the final ball of his first over and De Kock clips him off his pads for four.

The problem with England supporters is they get too excited with a win, and too critical of a poor performance. Be more like Scotland, don't get carried away!!

    Reece Topley bowlsImage source, AFP

Oh, that is an absolute corker - Du Plessis with his front foot to the pitch of the ball and absolutely creaming Topley to the extra-cover boundary. Bit of a half-volley from Topley, if we're honest, and it might be time for a bowling change for England...

  12. SA 34-1 (Broad 4-0-22-1)published at 7 overs

De Kock really is in princely touch at the moment - nothing much wrong with that delivery from Broad but De Kock chop-drives it through the covers for four. England know they need to get him back in the hutch pronto...

"South Africa have a really strong top four. After that it's OK, but you don't think 'goodness me they've got him coming in'."

  14. SA 29-1 (De Kock 12, Du Plessis 16)published at 6 overs

Topley is bowling a nice probing line on around middle and leg - the trouble is that you only need to stray a fraction and you give the batsman a gimme on his pads. That's precisely what Topley does off the final ball, and Du Plessis obliges with a clip to the square-leg fence.

    Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

"There's no real movement in the pitch. You have to bowl really well, pressure, give them little. Squeeze and see what happens."

  16. SA 21-1 (target 263)published at 5 overs

It takes a lot to look menacing in pink but with his flinty eyes, razor cheekbones and rippling forearms, Faf du Plessis just about manages it. De Kock on the other hand has the sort of cherubic face that wouldn't look out of place in the school playground. He can bat like a grizzled old pro though, driving Broad meatily down the ground for four.

"Woakes went for the catch, he did well. It was bouncing a yard in front of me, but he kept going and made a good effort."

  18. SA 12-1 (Topley 2-1-3-0)published at 4 overs

Ooof that's risky from Faf. Dug in by Topley, Du Plessis pulls but the ball comes off the toe and loops tantalisingly in the direction of Chris Woakes. The fielder sprawls headlong but can't quite get his fingers to it.

Thomas Measures: The Broad factor gives England 1/2 a chance here. Going to be a few ghosts left from the Test series.

Paul Huxley: Chasing 263 is difficult after Stuart Broad comes along and takes 8 wickets for nothing.

Perry Veness: Yes Broady! One danger man gone for a duck, hopefully de Kock will follow soon.

  20. SA 9-1 (De Kock 5, Du Plessis 3)published at 3 overs

Faf du Plessis the new man - like Alex Hales, he struggled in the Tests but has played pretty well in the ODIs so far. De Kock has been in superb form and he square-drives Broad beautifully for four.
