"England needed to start well and they have. Wickets are priceless, get AB de Villiers in early, his confidence can't be great and there's not a lot after him."

  2. SA 2-1 (target 263)published at 2 overs

That's Broad's ninth wicket at the Wanderers on this tour, and you just wonder if some of the mental scars he created in the Tests played their part in that wicket - was Amla hanging back a touch expecting the short ball? Reece Topley begins well too - a maiden from the young left-armer.

"It's a lovely length, drawing him forward. There was a little gap between bat and pad and an inside edge went on to the stumps. If England can get De Kock out now, we'll see how South Africa are under pressure."

Got him! What a moment that is! Stuart Broad, in his first ODI over since March, nips one through Hashim Amla's defences via the inside edge and the ball clatters the stumps. 239 in the last game for South Africa's first wicket, just two today.

"England need to bowl and field well, then see what happens. If they do that, you hold your hand up and know that you should have got more runs. If they can nip De Kock out, that will be a good start."

So, Hashim Amla and the red-hot Quinton de Kock at the crease, the returning Stuart Broad to take the new ball. Can he conjure some magic?

  8. Postpublished at 15:42

Right, we're almost ready for the chase. 263 the target for South Africa, they'll be favourites, but a couple of early wickets for England would keep it interesting...

  9. South Africa women beat Englandpublished at 15:41

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"South Africa's first win in an ODI against England in 12 years is massive for them. England have the better resources and opportunities so for South Africa to pull this is off is fantastic.

"South Africa are really on the up. They've had success in Twenty20 but to do it in 50-over cricket as well is different.

"They have the momentum going into the final match. England were outplayed in all facets - South Africa started and finished the game with a bang and looked the better team."

Alan Vaughan: Once again England think they have won a series before they actually do, Poor batting again, hope the bowlers actually turn up.

Michael McGrath: Should we be concerned that 5 of our opening 7 got single figure scores on a pitch predicted to serve up a run-fest?

Luke Swales: Can we just give Root his knighthood now and get it over with? True warrior

Matt Prior, owner of ONE Pro Cycling. Used to be a pretty good wicketkeeper too.

"I'm trying to get them involved," said Prior of his former England team-mates. "One by one I think they're going to get into it.

"I actually got a message from Graeme Swann a few weeks ago, who I have to say was probably one of the biggest culprits in giving me a bit of stick when we were in the dressing room about being into cycling. But he recently went for a bike ride and he text me saying, 'you know what, you've been right all along, it's absolutely amazing'.

"He wants to get involved and I think he's going to come and help us out at ONE Pro Cycling as well with a few events, so we'll get a few of the guys getting on bikes, I'm certain of it."

While all this has been going on, one of England's forgotten men has been tearing it up in the Pakistan Super League.

Not only did Ravi Bopara make 71 not out from 43 balls for Karachi Kings, he then ripped through the Lahore Qalandars batting with figures of 6-16.

Those are the second best figures by an England bowler in the history of T20 cricket, bettered only by the 6-5 of Somerset's Arul Suppiah against Glamorgan in 2011.

Jonathan Banks: 262 wasn't enough for England's Women. Will it be enough for the men?

GS Webster: De Kock will beat this score by himself

Ben Sutton: Not enough runs for the win you feel but something to bowl at at least. Time for a Broady special?

South Africa spinner Imran Tahir on Sky Sports: "It's really pleasing. I'm really happy and grateful to my team.

"AB de Villiers tells me he has trust in me. I've tried everything in the past few games, but we've playing on really good pitches.

"There isn't much for the spinners, but I backed my variations. It's nice to be back and I'm happy I'm doing well for the team."
