"That is one of those one-in-a-million chances. Now England have two new batsmen at the crease."

Morgan run out 38 (Eng 157-5)

The unluckiest dismissal in the game curtails the England captain. New man Ben Stokes pummels one back down the ground in characteristic fashion, Abbott gets the slightest of touches and it rattles into the timbers with non-striker Morgan stranded out of his ground.

"That was a brilliant innings of fabulous, clean hitting, and it's got England in a strong position. It was good bowling by Abbott: it was full and wide."

But the fun comes to an end, Buttler poking one off the bottom of the bat and it is well caught at extra cover, confirmed after several checks on replay.

Only the second tier for this Buttler six, bringing up his third T20 international fifty from 27 balls.

Morris gets the treatment, Morgan back in his crease and smearing him over mid-wicket. The rattled all-rounder is so wary of Morgan he sends wides on either side of the wicket but a well-directed bouncer results in a dot ball. A yorker would have cleaned up many a batsman but Jos has somehow got it down the ground for two and a slower ball to finish is helped away for four.

England have scored 200 five times and one of those was here in Jo'burg. So 67 from five? Jos is still there...

Buttler greets Duminy's gentle off-spin with a dismissive pull for six and then skips down the wicket to launch an incredible stroke into the top tier - the fourth tier no less.

The final ball of Tahir's spell is dispatched emphatically over mid-wicket for six by Morgan, spoiling the figures slightly.

"Sometimes it only takes one shot to get you back in form. With a player like Morgan, it's all instinct and touch, and once he starts to go, anything is possible. He'll face Tahir with a bit more confidence."

Pete Wilkie: Buttler hits it quicker in slow motion than the average cricketer does normally.

Philip Mulligan: Imagine if Buttler batted for all 20 overs.

Plenty of contact with the next one, though, Buttler crashing Wiese through the covers for his third four and that is better from Morgan, skipping down the wicket and a seemingly effortless push goes for six, followed by a full-blooded swoosh high over mid-wicket for six more. The ante has been upped.

  15. Eng 89-3published at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

At ease. Replays show there is no contact and we can continue.

  16. Umpire reviewpublished at 12.1 overs

Confusion here, and tension for England because it is Buttler who is the subject of a review for a catch behind.

  17. Eng 89-3published at 12 overs

    Buttler 20, Morgan 6

More uncertainty from Morgan with the running between the wickets and he has yet to get his timing going, missing out on a full toss from Tahir. He can up the ante as we know, but he needs to do it sharpish. He has only six from 11 balls, which is positively funereal at this level.

Buttler has got his eye in now, I think it is fair to say. That should be worth 10 - it has gone into the top tier at mid-wicket off Wiese. Enormous. More of the same please.
