Summary

  • South Africa win with 5.2 overs to spare

  • South Africa win two-match series 2-0

  • De Villiers 71 (29), Amla 69* (38)

  • England slip from 157-3 to 171 all out

  • Buttler 54 (28), Morgan 38; Abbott 3-26

  1. Eng 8-0published at 2 overs

    Roy 8, Hales 0

Kyle Abbott, no relation to British TV funnyman Russ but similarly well built, shares the new ball and Roy launches him over extra cover, not timed though and even with that hefty swing of the bat he only gets two for it. He has faced all the deliveries so far and will continue to do so because he has got a single off the final ball of the over.

"Rabada is getting a little bit of outward shape. He's bowling with a lovely seam position, and it's kicking through at a lovely height to De Villiers. It looked like a nervous over from Roy."

  4. Eng 3-0published at 1 over

    Roy 3, Hales 0

Roy is in his eighth T20i and has a highest score of 29. He plays a few hesitant strokes at Rabada, who is getting bounce from the Golf Course End, but he picks up a two and finishes the over with a thick edge for a single.

"I'm not sure what to make of that. Roy threw everything at it, but he didn't move his feet. You don't want to drop someone who can be so dangerous."

There's a start. Jason Roy thumps the first ball of the match to short cover and JP Duminy spills it.

Strange delay while we wait for the clock to hit 2:30. Even in T20 some traditions are respected.

One verse too many in the South Africa anthem in my view, but then again there is much to convey - and the Sri Lanka anthem is even longer. The players are out in the centre now and we are all set. It has been an eventful winter for Alex Hales, how will his last innings of the tour go? he is out there with Jason Roy,Kagiso Rabada will bowl the first over, so let the fireworks commence.

So England have won the Test series, South Africa the ODIs and the first T20. Can England make it 5-5 across all formats? Let's find out. It is a hot afternoon in Johannesburg and we are all set for the anthems, South Africa in the green and gold, England in those pinky/orangey/red shirts with dark blue trousers.

  12. About Billingspublished at 12:19

Kent batsman Billings, 24, has played five ODIs and five T20 matches, averaging 22 in the 50-over game and 18 in the shorter format. He is listed to bat at seven but this England line-up appears to be flexible.

Matt Bodsworth: So what Eoin Morgan said is we're playing our best 11. Willey out so does that mean in 2 days our 'best' 11 has changed?

Ian Funnell: Surprised that Billings is in ahead of Vince. He was top scorer in UAE. Would have given Dawson a go for Ali as well.

"There's nothing wrong with shaking it up. But what if England lose early wickets and Billings comes in and smacks 60? Someone else has got to be dropped."

Football Fragmento: One change to the England team - Billings in for Willey. Would have liked Vince to come in.

England looked set to win the first match at Cape Town on Friday, with South Africa needing 15 from the final over. I'm not sure if Reece Topley had been watching Phil Tufnell's fielding blunders DVD but he could feature in the next edition after he fumbled a clear run-out chance from the final ball.

The big left-armer was then reprimanded by the ICC, external for shattering the stumps with his hand - rather than the ball as he should have done - so it will be interesting to see how he responds. But the England batsmen will be under scrutiny to start with today.

It is high-octane stuff the T20 so there is not much time for urbane reflection. But we want yo hear from you, so send those pearls of wisdom in via #bbccricket or by text to 81111 or on email to tms@bbc.co.uk.

  20. Captain's viewpublished at 12:05

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis: "Mentally we've been chasing down scores the past five games, so we're trying to get the edge over England mentally.

"We were only at 60-70% in the first T20 so it was great to get over the line. Today it's about correcting those mistakes."
