Summary

  • New Zealand move closer to semi-finals

  • Aus 134-9: Khawaja 38 (27), McClenaghan 3-17

  • NZ 142-8: Guptill 39 (27), Elliott 27 (20)

  1. Aus 103-5published at 16.3 overs

Santner the first NZ bowler to complete his spell as Williamson looks to turn the screw on Australia. A Marsh single brings Agar on strike, and he's off the mark with a nudge to fine leg. Marsh gives it the charge - but can only bat the ball back to the bowler. 40 needed from 21.

  2. Aus 101-5 (target 143)published at 16 overs

Ashton Agar - he of "scoring 98 at Trent Bridge fame" - is the new batsman. They'll need the spirit of 2013 from him - but he struggles to read Sodhi's googly and we have the rare sight, in the 16th over of a run chase, of a slip and a leg slip in place!

One run and one wicket - a superb over for NZ. Aussies need 42 from 24 balls, are they second favourites now?

"Maxwell sliced it big-time and he's on his way back to the pavilion. He's played every shot in the book but that one was not going to be dropped. Now it's even more difficult for Australia."

  4. wicket

    Maxwell c Williamson b Sodhi 22 (Aus 100-5)

Maxwell tries to emulate Marsh's blast over the top - but gets right underneath it, skies it high into the Himalayas and captain Williamson pouches his second catch of the day.

  5. Aus 100-4 (Santner 3-0-14-2)published at 15 overs

Hundred up for Australia, Santner's figures have taken a bit of a pasting but it looks like a tight finish - 43 needed from 30.

  7. 6 runs

    Aus 98-4published at 14.4 overs

Maxwell turns round and shapes for a switch-hit against the wily Santner, but can only dig a fuller delivery out of the blockhole and looks like a left-hander blocking a yorker. But that's better for the Aussies from Mitchell Marsh, whacking one over the bowler's head and over the sightscreen for four.

PtheP: Big credit to the Kiwis if they can defend another modest total. It's not all about the big bash.

Mark Pettman: Kiwis are really throwing a spanner in the WT20. Could create a massive shoot out between India and Australia

  9. Aus 89-4 (Maxwell 18, M Marsh 5)published at 14 overs

Sodhi whips through an over of leg-spin. Four singles, as you were, 53 needed from 36 balls.

  11. Aus 85-4 (target 143)published at 13 overs

Not many smiles from the Aussie dug-out at the moment, though three more singles leave them needing 58 from 42 balls. I wonder where Williamson the Kiwi strategist plans to utilise Santner's last two overs.

  13. Aus 82-4 (Maxwell 15, M Marsh 2)published at 12.3 overs

Australia find the boundary for the first time since the sixth over - twice, both with fortuitous inside edges past the stumps for four by Maxwell. Keeper Ronchi has forsaken his cap and is keeping bare-headed to the seamers, having to move to his left to retrieve a couple of legside wides  bowled by Milne. This is shaping up to be Australia's best over for a while.

  15. Aus 71-4 (target 143)published at 12 overs

They may be in the foothills of the Himalayas, but Australia are struggling with altitude sickness here, and are even struggling to get to first base. A fairly miserly Anderson over produces three singles and three dots - there's even a sniff of another wicket as Maxwell skies one just short of the man running in from mid-wicket. They need 72 more from 48 balls.

Theo Bowyer: Australia batting collapse... Without much RR pressure.

  17. Aus 68-4 (Santner 2-0-4-2)published at 11 overs

Santner's spin is strangling the Aussies. Having taken 4-11 in the first match, he now has 2-4 from two overs. I'm not a betting man, but a colleague raises the prospect of a cheeky punt on Santner as player of the tournament?! Mitchell Marsh the new batsman, by the way.

  19. wicket

    Warner c Guptill b Santner 6 (Aus 66-4)

Another one bites the dust! David Warner goes for the first big shot of his innings - and it's straight down Martin Guptill's throat at deep mid-wicket. Santner does the business again.
