  2. NZ 9-0published at 1 over

The first ball is on the money from Coulter-Nile, and Guptill lets it go past the off stick. A sighter. The next ball is short and wide - Guppy throws the kitchen sink at it but misses out. The third ball is - well, let's be generous and say it's steered through third man for four.

That gets Gup going. He almost emasculates Kane Williamson with a bludgeoning baseball-style strike that rockets straight down the ground at, ahem, midriff height.

The last time these two met in a global cricket tournament, New Zealand had a shocking first over, with Brendon McCullum missing a few before being bowled by Mitchell Starc. But of course, neither of those two are playing today.

Instead, it's Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson with the willow, and Nathan Coulter-Nile who is going to have first bowl...

Time for the anthems. The local singer giving it plenty. Some very questionable haircuts in the Australia line-up - Mitchell Marsh in particular sporting a lid that wouldn't have looked out of place on Ramsay Street in the 80s...

New Zealand are coming off a superb win in the opening match of the tournament, where they beat India at their own game.

The Black Caps made a pretty ordinary total of 126-7, but their selection of three spinners paid off handsomely as they skittled the hosts for 79.

Mitchell Santner was the star with 4-11 - can he put the Aussies in a spin today? A New Zealand win would put them with one foot in the semis...

Now, I know what you're thinking: what's Shane Watson doing at the top of the order instead of Aaron Finch?

But come on, don't be like that. Watto is like the faithful old family golden retriever - you know his best days are behind him, but you don't quite have the heart to take him behind the sheds...

Plus, look at this picture of him. Brooding, with just a hint of the 19th-century explorer. One for the calendar...

As we mentioned, just the one change for New Zealand, but it's a very interesting Australia line-up - former captain Aaron Finch left out, and twin spin from Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa.

Australia XI: Khawaja, Watson, Smith (capt), Warner, Maxwell, M Marsh, Faulkner, Nevill (wk), Agar, Zampa, Coulter-Nile.

New Zealand XI: Guptill, Williamson (capt), Munro, Anderson, Taylor, Elliott, Santner, Ronchi (wk), Milne, McClenaghan, Sodhi.

Australia captain Steve Smith: "I would have had a bat as well, it looks pretty dry and looks like it might slow up a bit in the second innings. We've picked a side that we think is going to beat New Zealand on this pitch."

He reveals that Usman Khawaja and Shane Watson is the opening combo for the Aussies...

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "We're going to have a bat, it looks pretty dry and it's good to make use of it first. We've made one change - Nathan McCullum sits out and Mitchell McClenaghan comes in."
