  1. wicket

    Knight c & b Kubra 1 (Eng 71-3)

Vice-captain Heather Knight doesn't last long - she pushes her first ball for a single, but then pops a low return catch to off-spinner Kubra off her second.

"You could feel that frustration building. The delivery was a little bit wide and Sarah Taylor was trying to do too much. With Edwards going so well, she's missed out a little bit."

Taylor st Sultana b Fahima 9 (Eng 70-2)

Oh, no... Taylor comes down the track and is smartly stumped by a couple of yards. She wasn't even in the picture - though there's a bizarre delay while it's (rather needlessly) referred to the third umpire. Possibly after that stumping chance in the first game when Sultana took the ball in front of the stumps?

  4. Eng 70-1published at 9.4 overs

Edwards is moving up through the gears here, lifting the leg-spinner Fahima over extra cover for four

"Bangladesh's fielding has much improved since the last time we saw them in 2014. They've moved a fielder to very fine leg, covering Sarah Taylor's release shot, meaning she's going to have to keep nudging it for now."

  6. Eng 63-1 (Edwards 33, Taylor 8)published at 9 overs

Edwards gets a fresh pair of gloves between overs from one of England's non-combatants - I think it was Rebecca Grundy - and Bangladesh introduce their sixth bowler, off-spinner Khadija Tul Kubra. There's a big appeal as Edwards misjudges a slog-sweep against a loopy delivery with a bit of air, that's close... but umpire Martinesz is unmoved.

  7. Eng 59-1 (run rate 7.38)published at 8 overs

The new bowler is Fahima Khatun, a leg-spinner with a rather jerky run-up who is no relation to her namesake Salma Khatun who took the new ball. (She's also a contender for the Bespectacled XI). Taylor and Edwards find fairly easy pickings against the 23-year-old leggie, who took 2-31 against India in the opening game of the tournament - five from the over.

  8. Eng 54-1 (Edwards 29, Taylor 3)published at 7 overs

Edwards expertly cuts a four past backward point, her opposite number Jahanara has a moan at the fielder - but it's not exactly the fielder's fault when the bowler serves up a ropey short, wide delivery, is it? Even if she is the captain? That's 50 up for England. Edwards turns her fifth four of the day through mid-wicket - her 29 has come from 22 balls.

"I'd never change Edwards and Taylor, but you do need other players to come through. There have been just eight sixes from the other England batters since the last T20 in 2014. That, for me, says a lot. From teams like Australia we're seeing about four sixes an innings. When you can hit big, it really takes the game away."

  10. Missed stumpingpublished at 6.1 overs

    Eng 45-1

Stumping chance! Taylor down the track to Jahanara, misses, keeper Nigar Sultana (standing a couple of yards back) underarms it at the stumps but she misses too. To add to Bangladesh's frustration, it's signalled as a wide.

  11. Eng 44-1 (Edwards 21 from 18 balls)published at 6 overs

Medium-pacer Lata Mondal into the attack, no great pace and Edwards is able to club her wide of mid-on for four. Another "please hit me" delivery is helped down to fine leg for four more by the England skipper, who is the most experienced female player in the world in this format.

"Charlotte Edwards and Sarah Taylor have scored 632 of England's T20 runs in total since the last World T20 in Bangladesh. Everyone else has scored 702 runs. That's just 70 more runs than those two batters alone."

  13. Eng 35-1 (Edwards 13, Taylor 1)published at 5 overs

The bad news for Bangladesh is that by removing Tammy Beaumont, they've brought Sarah Taylor to the crease. The Sussex keeper is the number two-ranked female T20 batter in the world, with only the borderline-superhuman Australia skipper Meg Lanning ahead of her. Taylor is off the mark with a single, and Jahanara has 1-10 from two overs.

"Beaumont had the right intent - trying to keep that aggressive approach - but she got herself into trouble going wide of the ball. She'll be frustrated. This tournament is really important for her breakthrough, and she and Edwards had been almost toying with the field."

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.1 overs

    Beaumont b Jahanara 18 (Eng 34-1)

Beaumont's entertaining cameo is ended as she comes down the track looking to hit Jahanara over the top - but misjudges her shot and loses her leg stump to the delighted Bangladesh skipper.

  16. 6 runs

    Eng 34-0 (Beaumont 18, Edwards 13)published at 4 overs

Salma Khatun spins down a second over, still bowling in a cap - perhaps she's a fan of a certain G Boycott, who used to do that? There's a brief mix-up as Beaumont pushes the ball to mid-wicket and sets off for a run, but Edwards wasn't interested - thankfully as the fielder makes a sprawling stop, Beaumont can regain her ground. And Beaumont celebrates by launching England's first six of the tournament over long-on! A single takes her to 18 from 13 balls - Edwards paddle-sweeps a two to reach 13 from 11.

"Tammy Beaumont is very good straight down the ground - she just slightly adjusted her feet for that four, a really nice swipe over the top. Then comes a classic shot from Edwards for another. What I like about her is she never overhits."

  18. Eng 24-0 (Edwards 11, Beaumont 11)published at 3 overs

Nahinda Akter replaces the captain after one over - she's a left-arm spinner. And to make the rest of us feel old, she was only born in March 2000... Beaumont is relishing her chance at the top of the order, coming a pace or two down the wicket and smacking a four over the bowler's head. Captain Edwards unleashes a more textbook extra-cover drive for four, and this has been a decent start from England.

  19. Eng 12-0published at 2 overs

Off-spinner Salma Khatun takes the second over, bowling not only in sunglasses, but also in a cap. Not much turn at this stage. Edwards sweeps a two from outside off stump, and a single means both openers have five.
