Summary

  • Watch in-play highlights from Bangalore

  • Andre Fletcher 84 not out from 64 (5 sixes)

  • Chris Gayle didn't bat because of minor injury

  • Leg-spinner Samuel Badree takes 3-12

  1. WI 45-1 (Fletcher 33 from 23)published at 7 overs

Looking much more more difficult for the Windians against the spinners. Uncertainty now exists where there was once leather on willow. Rangana Herath, the sorcerer, has the ball on a string, unlucky to see Fletcher slice for four.

  3. WI 39-1 (Vandersay 2-1-1-1)published at 6 overs

Marlon Samuels has never felt so unloved. You can hear a pin drop as he takes guard, all that after he walked in to the noise of the crowd telling him they want someone else. Vandersay, a man who was in the squad, then dropped, now back in, is looking good here.

  4. wicket

    Charles b Vandersay 10 (WI 39-1)

Bowled him! Johnson Charles chops on off Jeffrey Vandersay and the crowd goes absolutely chicken oriental. They're about to be very disappointed, though...

  5. WI 39-0 (target 123)published at 5 overs

The Windies are wafting at everything, more often than not making pretty poor contact. Twice Herath is mis-hit into the leg side, once each by each batsman. The "we want Gayle" chant starts again. The World Boss is on the balcony, wearing the sort of grin that could light a coal mine. He's not got his pads on.

Kieron Bird: Why not put Gayle in? He doesn't move his legs anyway. He just stands there and hits you into the next city!

  7. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 4 overs

    WI 30-0

Can you believe it? Jeffrey Vandersay, in the squad as a replacement for Lasith Malinga, in the team, second ball. Johnson Charles hits is down the throat of Chamara Kapugedera at deep mid-wicket. A dolly that is... dropped. The crowd boo. Is that because they thought Gayle would come in next, or because it was so village?

  9. WI 29-0 (target 123)published at 3 overs

Andre Fletcher leans on his bat at the non-striker's end, the 1,000-mile start of a man determined to take his chance. Johnson Charles is on the act too, fetching one through the leg side for four. Shot-a-ball stuff at the moment. Crowd bang into this.

  10. WI 23-0 (need 100 from 108 balls)published at 2 overs

I reckon Fletcher might have nobbled Gayle's hamstring so he could have this chance to open. A slog through the leg side for four leaves him with 22 off 10.

  11. 6 runs

    WI 19-0published at 1.2 overs

And again! Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath, Fletcher going inside-out over cover for another maximum. Incredible. Judging by the cheers of the crowd, they've already forgotten about Chris Gayle...

  12. WI 13-0 (target 123)published at 1 overs

Already down below one a ball for the Windies. I reckon they could get these in their Speedos. Apparently, a Multiverse is bigger than the Universe.

  13. 6 runs

    WI 12-0published at 0.4 overs

Chris who? Huge back down the ground from Fletcher, belting a maximum. What's bigger than Universe Boss?

  14. WI 4-0published at 0.1 overs

That might make them happier. Angelo Mathews' first ball is somehow clonked through the leg side for four by makeshift opener Fletcher.

This is extraordinary. "We want Gayle, we want Gayle," is the chant. We might have a riot on our hands.

  16. Postpublished at 15:53

Andre Fletcher is the man promoted up the order to take the place of Chris Gayle. He's partnering Johnson Charles. The crowd are booing - they musn't know that the World Boss is hurt.

  17. Postpublished at 15:52

Tillkaratne Dilshan is out already. He seems to be talking Dinesh Chandimal through his lbw decision, shadowing the shot he played. "I'm telling you, Dinesh, it wouldn't have hit a third set."

Hmmmm. You'd think that the Windies would usually wolf this down like a Sunday dinner, but the absence of Christopher Henry Gayle has heaped some extra mustard on the beef. One thing is for sure, England will be hoping that West Indies get these.

  19. Women's Twenty20 - Ireland v Sri Lankapublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2016

Ireland had Sri Lanka 59-5, with Ciara Matthews taking 4-15, but Lokusuriyage Kaushalya made an unbeaten 35 to boost Sri Lanka's score.

So, no Gayle but you would have thought this should be a simple chase for West Indies, who have been highly impressive in the first part of this game. But then again at the last World T20, Sri Lanka defended 119 against New Zealand, with Herath superb as the Black Caps were skittled for 60. With him in the side, you never know. Here's Stephan Shemilt to take you through to the close.
