I asked for suggestions for a cricket-loving wrestling character a few minutes ago. The Googly has been suggested to me. Presumably, as wrestlers switch between heel and face personas, The Googly would turn more than most.

  2. wicket

WICKET Patterson (c Tomlinson b Vince 1)published at 16:24 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Yorkshire 593-9 dec & 157-8 v Hampshire 453-9 dec

It's clearly a day for occasional bowlers. Hampshire captain James Vince has been forced to take the ball himself because of injuries among his team-mates and he strikes soon after tea as Steven Patterson is taken at mid-on. Yorkshire 297 in front.

  3. Belly of the ballpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

Skipper Ian Bell has continued his spell for Warwickshire after tea at Lord's. Here's a pic of him bowling in a Test match against Pakistan in 2005. Looks like a decent action and the 'demon stare' is there too.

  4. Hong Kong all-rounder bannedpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

Hong Kong all-rounder Irfan Ahmed has been barred from the game for two and a half years after admitting breaches of the International Cricket Council's corruption code. For the full story, click here.

I mentioned during the lunch interval that England all-rounder Ben Stokes will be back in action for Durham on Sunday. Today he's been visiting a school where he met some WWE superstars.

A couple of days ago, it was suggested to me that The Keeper might be a good name for a cricket-related Batman villain. Any thoughts on a name for a cricket-loving wrestling character? And no, you can't suggest The Keeper again.

Not sure how good William Regal's, external cover drive is - but he must be delighted by Lancashire's win over Notts earlier today.

  6. Intervalpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Derbyshire 444 & 219-2 v Gloucestershire 563 - tea

Having reached his hundred, Chesney Hughes celebrates with a four and six off successive deliveries from Ian Cockbain as he reaches the tea interval on 123 not out. Skipper Wayne Madsen is on eight and the lead is exactly 100. It's now just a question of when...

  7. Intervalpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Yorkshire 593-9 dec & 149-7 v Hampshire 453-9 dec - tea

Adil Rashid is caught off James Tomlinson for 22 in the final over of the afternoon session at Headingley. Yorkshire's batting effort today is unlikely to earn many words of praise from head coach Jason Gillespie, but they are 289 ahead and the game looks set to peter out following the re-start.

  8. Intervalpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Essex 320 & 172-4 v Sussex 360 & 288 - tea

England captain Alastair Cook is 84 not out, with Essex requiring another 157 runs for victory. Partner Jesse Ryder has made an out-of-character nine from 47 balls, which suggests they may be erring on the side of caution. Another wicket or two, though, and Sussex will feel the day could be theirs.

  9. Bell and Trott take the new ballpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Middlesex 452 & 252-5 v Warwickshire 468 - tea

BBC WM's Richard Wilford at Lord's:

"A sure sign that a game is petering out to a draw is the sight of Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott taking the second new ball at Lord's.

"Middlesex have shown solid resistance throughout the day, losing only three wickets in 61 overs by tea. If only the captains could shake hands now."

Ian Bell has in fact taken 47 first-class wickets. An inspired burst in the final session could take him to perhaps the most unlikely 50 of his career.

CHESNEY HUGHES SCORES CENTURYpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Derbyshire 444 & 203-2 v Gloucestershire 563

    Chesney HughesImage source, PA

Derbyshire opener Chesney Hughes hits his 18th boundary to bring up the eighth first-class hundred of his career. Their total passes 200 shortly afterwards with the visitors 84 ahead and just batting out time before the draw.

  11. 50 runs

Voges reaches half centurypublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Middlesex 452 & 232-5 v Warwickshire 468

Fifty up for Middlesex's Australian captain from 126 balls. Just three fours so far by Voges - and it must feel a bit like after the lord mayor's show after Sam Robson's magnificent batting in this match.

  12. wicket

WICKET Rutherford (c Dent b Taylor 78)published at 15:13 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Derbyshire 444 & 180-2 v Gloucestershire 563

The end of a 174-run partnership as Hamish Rutherford is taken at short cover from Jack Taylor's off-spin after hitting 10 fours in his 142-ball innings. All eyes now on Chesney Hughes, who needs eight for a century. Derbyshire's lead is 61.

  13. wicket

WICKET Gale (c Wheater b Wood 46)published at 15:09 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Yorkshire 593-9 dec & 116-5 v Hampshire 453-9 dec

Chris Wood had to go off mid-over in Yorkshire's innings because of an injury, but he's doing a tidy job for his depleted side today and is rewarded with the wicket of Yorkshire's captain.  The defending champions are 254 ahead - is Gale contemplating a declaration and giving his bowlers a chance to try and win the game?

  14. wicket

WICKET Simpson (lbw Patel 13)published at 15:04 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Middlesex 452 & 222-5 v Warwickshire 468

Jeetan Patel is arguably the most accomplished off-spinner on the county circuit. There's his sixth wicket of the game, but unless Middlesex collapse like a pack of cards, this one looks like a draw. Home skipper Adam Voges remains on 44 not out.

Sussex's bowling attack are keeping things tight at Hove, where Essex are attempting to score 329 for a second successive victory. England captain Alastair Cook has reached a 112-ball half century, but the dismissal of Dan Lawrence is a body blow to their chances.

BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms at Hove:

"A breakthrough for Sussex as Dan Lawrence goes lbw to Ajmal Shahzad for 22, but how the home side must be ruing dropping Cook when he had scored just a single, he's now on 55."

Earlier on, the phrase "prod the England selectors" amused me. This does too...

  17. wicket

WICKET Robson (st Ambrose b Patel 106)published at 14:26 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Middlesex 452 & 196-4 v Warwickshire

Oh dear. No sooner have I raised the prospect of Sam Robson scoring 200 twice in the same match than he falls to the off-spin of Jeetan Patel. So, the opener's match stats are: batted for 745 minutes, balls faced 540, 42 fours, one six.  As Stouffer the cat used to say 'Respect due'.

    Glamorgan 348 & 191 v Leicestershire 427 & 115-0

And just a few minutes after Sam Robson reaches a century for Middlesex, brother Angus hits the winning boundary at the Swalec for Leicestershire. The younger Robson finishes unbeaten on 49, with partner Paul Horton 64 not out.

The Foxes earn 23 points, and are half-way to the total number of Championship wins they achieved last summer, with five for Glamorgan.

  19. Double double for Sam?published at 14:18 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Middlesex 452 & 195-3 v Warwickshire 468

I'm sure Warwickshire's fielders won't thank me for saying this, but with the possibility of 58 overs left at Lord's, Sam Robson has time to score a second double century in this game. But does he have the energy?

  20. 50 runs

Rutherford runs into formpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 20 April 2016

    Derbyshire 444 & 126-1 v Gloucestershire 563

It's a flat wicket at Bristol too and acting Derbyshire captain Hamish Rutherford reaches a 107-ball half century with a boundary off David Payne. His partnership with Chesney Hughes, who is on 66, is worth 121. Benjamin Franklin opined that death and taxes were the only certainties in life - but a draw in this game is number three.
