    Looks like Lancashire have got this one in the bag as Alviro Petersen hits successive boundaries off Stuart Broad. Only 24 more needed and 82 overs to get them in. That might have been a big ask for me, the way I used to bat (I once batted the entire 48 overs of a village game and only reached 50 in the last over), but it should be plain sailing for the Red Rose boys.

    Sam Robson clearly intends to fill his boots this summer. A single off Chris Wright carries him to a 114-ball half century to go with his first innings score of 231. Warwickshire must be sick of the sight of him.

    "It's been an impressive performance by the home side on their return to Division One. If there was a man of the match award it would surely be given to Neil Wagner for his 11 wickets.

    "This has been a thoroughly entertaining match and a good contest between bat and ball."     

  5. I promised you yesterday that I would find out who produced the best figures of Lancashire in their debut appearance following Neil Wagner's binary-beautiful 11-111 against Notts. It's taken a few hours, but the answer is Cecil Parkin, who had match figures of 14-99 against Leicestershire in 1914.

    With a Test series against Sri Lanka looming and stacks of runs being scored by England hopefuls around the country, current number three Nick Compton won't be happy at missing out on the chance for a big innings of his own. His stand with Sam Robson was worth 71.

    Alastair Cook looks on from the other end as opening partner Nick Browne departs in the third over. Essex need another 321 to win at Hove with nine wickets remaining.

    That is the 518th first-class wicket of Steve Magoffin's career and he's taken them at an average of just 23.73 - how did he never win a Test cap Australia?

    A sorry end to Glamorgan's second innings as Graham Wagg is run out for 33. His downfall means Leicestershire need 113 to win at the Swalec - their last victory at Cardiff came in 2001.

    Yorkshire 593-9 dec v Hampshire 453-9 dec

    So what's happening with the defending champions? They are about to bat again after Ryan Sidebottom's dismissal of Chris Wood for 31 prompts Hampshire to call a halt to their first innings 140 runs in arrears. Ryan McLaren is left unbeaten on 55 and Sidebottom's final figures - having taken the 1000th wicket of his career on day three - are 4-80.

    Barring a Derbyshire collapse, it's hard to see how anything other than a draw is possible at Bristol. A run out in the fourth over of play might have started one or two butterflies fluttering in the visiting dressing room. They trail by 112.

    Sussex 360 & 288 v Essex 320

    So, Essex will face a target of 329 at Hove after Jamie Porter ends a stubborn last-wicket stand of 46 for Sussex by having Ajmal Shahzad caught for 23. Porter finishes with figures of 5-82, the first five-for of his career, and Steve Magoffin is left 23 not out. Graham Napier took 5-92 - a fine effort by the two Essex bowlers.

    Now then, is there going to be a sting in the tail of this match? Jake Ball strikes for Notts as Lancashire opener Karl Brown follows his first-innings duck with another failure. Lancashire need another 78 runs to win the match.

    Ben Raine strikes in his opening over at Cardiff. That's his fourth wicket of the innings and Glamorgan are only 98 ahead with one wicket remaining. Just to remind you - Leicestershire have not won their opening fixture in a Championship season since 2012.

    Of course, it's not absolutely impossible that Nottinghamshire could pull off an astonishing win at Old Trafford. They do have a certain Mr Stuart Broad in their team and he knows a thing or two about knocking batsmen over quickly - remember his incredible 8-15 in last summer's fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

    "Under blue Manchester skies, Lancashire head into the final day in a position of strength that even the most optimistic of supporters would have found it hard to believe.

    "Some wonderful bowling from Neil Wagner and some determined batting from the middle and lower order has been enough - unless something remarkable happens – to set up an impressive opening round win.

    "On a pitch which seems slow and difficult to score, adding even another 50 runs to the 86-run target would have left a tricky total to chase."
