Edward Taylor: Agree about Crewe chippy. I have, in the past, deliberately missed the next available connecting train as an excuse to visit it.

Nathan Shaw: Talking of chippys, I've just been told by a bloke at work that Gorgeous George of Snatch owns one in Huddersfield.

The Trent Bridge Inn is another belter. I'm trying to think of the football ground where there's a pub on every corner. Brentford? Everton? Can't remember...

I'm trying to think of the other best chip shops, pubs and places of general merriment near to sports grounds. The chip shop outside the Alexandra Stadium in Crewe is top notch.

Rich Hird: Sat in my office in Leeds city centre and not a drop of rain yet! Get on with the Bairstow show!

Quinney Newland: Raining now in Cheltenham, it's nowhere near Headingley but I just thought you might all like to know.

Or, if you're thirsty, the Headingley Taps pub. The floodlights are on, there are some pretty filthy grey clouds above. More sheets are being pulled on to the square. Umbrellas are up in the stands. Wet, wet, wet.

Is being given the live text just when the rain starts the equivalent to a hospital pass in football? To be fair, passing the time during rain at a Test match is an art form in itself. My advice for Headingley? Get yourself to Bretts Chip Shop.

Mark Fairhead: Raining hard now in Pudsey.

More covers. Huge green sheets in place on the square. Groundstaff, previously bareheaded, now have hoods up. It's raining....

Thanks, James. I think. I say that because I've spotted the hovercover in place. The wet stuff that's been threatening may have arrived or it might just be a precaution.

    Chief sports writer at Headingley

"A partnership that has stretched to 88 so far for England, Bairstow playing his natural dasher role, Hales playing his unnatural anchor role. It's an unusual balance but it is hauling England out of a hole that was almost entirely of their own making."

  14. England will hold day-night Test - Gravespublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 19 May 2016

At tea we'll be hearing from ECB chairman Colin Graves, who will be telling us why he believes England will hold a day-night Test.

Australia held the first day-night Test against New Zealand in November in the hope of attracting larger crowds and a peak-time TV audience.

"You can't turn your back on it, it will happen," Graves says.

"We just have to decide when it is going to happen. We're doing a lot of work on it and we'd love to see day-night cricket."

"This pair have have got England out of a nasty hole, in contrasting ways - Bairstow free and easy, and Hales has done a damn good job without catching the eye. This is his most significant Test innings so far."

Bairstow and Hales pinch a couple of singles off Herath, and that's the end of the afternoon session. Ultimately a good one for England, who recovered well after a shaky start, but this game remains very finely balanced.

Bairstow is inching further and further out of his crease, really looking to put the pressure on the Sri Lanka bowlers and dictate terms. He tickles Mathews fine and picks up two more.
