There's also a Hyde Park in Leeds? I had no idea. There's one in Sydney too. Ben Stokes has hobbled off the field - we might not see him for a while. This Sri Lanka pair have taken the sting out of proceedings, but that doesn't stop Finn testing Mathews with some extra bounce. Mexican Wave in the crowd. This is where the lagered-up come into their own.

  3. SL 75-4 (Mathews 33, Thirimanne 12)published at 17:15

I've got a dilemma. My computer needs an automatic update and restart. If I don't do it soon, it will come at 19:13 at the latest, about the time of the scheduled close. I'm considering waiting in the knowledge that the light probably won't take us that far. If it does, though, I'll be getting kicked out at a crucial time. Tricky. Stokes to Thirimanne, watchful defence.

  4. SL 74-4published at 17:12

If it is dark, this Sri Lanka pair haven't noticed. The tourists are looking more comfortable than at any other point in the innings, with Thirimanne driving down the ground past Steven Finn for four. Get loose, Jimmy....

Find out why England fast bowler Steven Finn thinks of rhinos to get himself in the zone on the pitch. Listen here.

You can hear more from Finn on Stumped on BBC World Service on Saturday.

Lovely from Mathews, the real class act in this Sri Lanka batting line-up. First a lean on a drive through mid-on, then a whip off his toes through mid-wicket, taking Stokes for a pair of boundaries. Is it looking dark out there? Perhaps...

"Steven Finn is bowling exactly the same speed as Stuart Broad, 83-84mph, but Broad looked a lot zippier. I guess that's the difference between a man in form and a man out of form."

  8. SL 60-4published at 17:03

Did you see that Andrew Flintoff turned out for Alderley Edge against Bollington in a T20 last night? Freddie made 11 and took a wicket I think. Still Steven Finn, floppy fringe lolling over his right eye. In the crowd, stewards are wading into the Western Terrace to break up a beer snake.

  9. SL 59-4published at 17:00

There's a young lad in the crowd, can't be more than five or six, eating a doughnut as big as his head. Well played, that man. I said before that we can play until 19:13, but you have to wonder if the light will hold that long. Is that first Barmy Army song of the summer? I do think so. It's the soundtrack to a Mathews cut for four.

"It's good to see James Vince in the slips because that's where he fields for Hampshire. One of the things that can really settle your nerves when you first play for England is to take a good slip catch."

Mathews dropped on 17published at 16:55

This is a tough school, so I'm putting this down as a dropped catch. It's James Vince again, diving to his right and thrusting one hand towards the turf. Think outside edge from Angelo Mathews off Steven Finn, dying on Vince, put down. It would have been a worldie, but it could have been taken.

  12. SL 54-4published at 16:51

Stokes seems OK, slipping into Sri Lanka skipper Mathews, for whom too much footwork appears unnecessary. Plane flies overhead, Headingley humming rather than buzzing. Some singing from the well-oiled, but nothing like what will come from the zoo tomorrow. Thirimanne off his pads through mid-wicket for four.

"England have bowled well in conditions that suit - they've pitched it up and swung the ball. It just emphasises how well Jonny Bairstow batted - he's been the only one to make batting look easy in this game."

  14. SL 48-4published at 16:47

Knee or no knee, Stokes is going to continue bowling. The close, by the way, has been extended to 19:13. We could be here all night.

  15. SL 48-4published at 16:46

Through all that, Steven Finn stood at the end of his run, most disgruntled that his over had been interrupted by some namby-pambying from Stokes. When Finn overpitches, Thirimanne plays one of the shots of the match so far, a spanking cover drive.

  16. SL 43-4published at 16:43

Stokes is on the deck, having his left knee looked at by the physio. More silly walking. Travor Bayliss, on the England balcony, looks incredulous. Now Stokes seems to be having a couple of painkillers. All a bit weird.

Steven Finn, England's fifth seamer behind Anderson, Broad, Stokes and, erm, Vince, is on for his first trundle. Why have we stopped? Ben Stokes is feeling his knee. He's hobbling around like someone from the Ministry of Silly Walks.

Stuart Tame: It's not the pace of the game or how it's played, Test cricket is dying around the world because of stuff like this #getonwithit.

Samuel: The Headingley crowd rightly unhappy. This is normally considered a wonderful summer's day in Yorkshire.

Lovely wobble from Stokes, ball moving away from the left-hander, floodlights reflecting off the shiny, red leather. Thirimanne, the left-hander, refrains from playing.
