People seem to forget the ball is moving at 80-90mph when it hits the keeper's glove. If you're in doubt you have to go to the third umpire to be fair to both teams.
Andy King, Stretford
On the live text desk, James Gheerbrant laments how difficult tangerines are to peel when compared to satsumas. In the middle, Angelo Mathews plays what can only be described as an awful stroke. Angelo, your team is 50-odd-3 in reply to 498. You got rolled twice a week ago. You're replying to 498 and you've only just come in. Why would you waft at one as wide as that?

"Anderson is having a wonderful summer. On a pitch that looks so docile and friendly, he's made the ball talk."
So, how are you doing on this bank holiday Saturday? Where are you following from? Are you watching another cricket match? Send me a pic. One point for a scoreboard, two points for someone eating a cricket tea, 10 points for a dog. Bonus points if you can get the lot in. 100 points if you can take one of action from the middle. Extra points for creativity - use your imagination.

Dave Wood: Poor shot from Chandimal. Pushed at that far too hard. Player of his experience should know better.
Conner Hoye: It's becoming another procession... Them 298 runs look so far away now.
Chris Woakes into the attack in the sunshine, slipping in, a touch quicker than he looks. Looking again at the Chandimal wicket, it was a real nothing shot. Wide enough to leave, a prod too firm to be a defensive stroke, a real recipe for a nick off. One or two more here and England really will be in the hen house.
Have we just entered that time, that Headingley time, when a wicket could come at any moment? Angelo Mathews is the new man, Sri Lanka badly in need of a knock from their skipper.

"Beautiful bit of bowling by Anderson. He hits that metronomic line and length outside off stump, a little bit of shape away, Chandimal pushed at it, and it was a comfortable waist-height catch."
Chandimal c Cook b Anderson 4 (SL 53-3)
Gone! Are we seeing the beginning of another Sri Lanka procession? Dinesh Chandimal has hands of steel, pushing much too firmly at a James Anderson delivery that explores the channel of off stump. Thick edge, taken in the buckets of Alastair Cook at first slip.

"Jayawardene is such a huge miss on a pitch like this, where the lack of bounce means you can get forward and only have to worry about a little movement. He would have loved batting on here."
Chandimal blocks out his first six deliveries from Broad and is yet to get off the mark. Will he get a run? Find out with Stephan Shemilt.

The length of time taken to give that last decision is frankly unacceptable; why is it that the on-field umpire cannot give an instant decision?
Trevor Hobday,Clitheroe, Lancashire
Dinesh Chandimal, who injured his thump while keeping during the England innings, is the new man. He's off strike for the moment while Kusal Mendis tries to negotiate the swing of James Anderson. Anderson isn't happy with something here - he's having a whinge at Alastair Cook for setting a field that has displeased him. Cook bears the volley of abuse stoically.

"I think Rod Tucker is outstanding. That is how a third umpire should go about his business."
Silva c Bairstow b Broad 13 (SL 44-2)
After an age, Rod Tucker decides that the ball bounced in Jonny Bairstow's glove - I think he's got that spot on too. Very good umpiring, and an important breakthrough for England.

VB: Umpires need some testicular fortitude rather than keep offering obvious catches to the 3rd umpire.
Hmm, this is a very tight one...It's either bounced just in front of Jonny Bairstow, or in the webbing of his gloves. Good luck Rod!

"This is out."
SL 44-1
Away-swinger, outside snick, low catch, you know the drill. Umpires send it upstairs, but what will the cameras say?
