The 100 comes up. They have amassed those with minimum fuss. There is a noticebale slump about the Sri Lankan fielders. They are hoping for something to happen rather than forcing the issue. Hales and Roy have earned their drink.

  3. Eng 97-0published at 17 overs

This is at the complete other end of the spectrum from England's batting display at Trent Bridge. There is a calmness and control that simply wasn't there in the top order at Nottingham.

Slog sweep for four to cow brings Hales his 50. Done in 55 balls.

I love it when a batsman walks down the wicket after the stroke, bat held in check after a stroke. It speaks to a player very much in control, which is exactly what these two England openers are. Four more singles off Lakmal. Easy as you like.

Seekkuge Prasanna into the attack. He doesn't do run ups this kid. Five singles off the over. Beware Seekkuge, this is what Jason Roy can do to spin bowling...

  13. Eng 80-0published at 14 overs

Easy Jason. I know you're on top but don't go doing anything rash. He swipes at a loose ball from Lakmal and misses and then tries to stab down at a straighter one to similar effect. Good over. Just two off it. No wickets, though.

While we wait for the next over, why not enjoy this shot from Alex Hales from earlier...

Now the bananas are belting out God Save the Queen along with a fella dressed as Michael van Gerwen, complete with a dartboard round his neck. It is a target for Hales to aim for and he does his best with a massive mow off Maharoof for six. England are in cruise control.

The bananas in the crowd are front and centre for a rendition of Swing Low Sweet Chariot. Just another average day at the cricket. Meanwhile, on the pitch, Jason Roy scratches an itch by dancing down to Randiv and hammering high into the black sheeting behind the rope.
