There is no mystery to Jason Roy's role in this England side. Get in there, be aggressive and cause trouble. In days past you might have unfairly called him a pinch hitter, but in this age of uber-attacking cricket he is more your attacking opener dialed up to 11.
He leans into a ball from Lakmal and drives for four through cover. He's fallen for single figures in each of his last three ODI innings. Here is a chance to put that right and more.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"It was a gorgeous shot. Too full from Maharoof. Hales didn't try and get too much on it and it went through mid-wicket for four. Lovely start."
Alex Hales gets England's chase off to a cracking start with a nonchalant stroke through the leg side for four off Farveez Maharoof. The Edgbaston crowd are in good voice now as the beer tips them from merry to karaoke gods.
Cheers Steph. The England openers are out in the middle and ready to rock. They'll fancy their chances of chasing this Sri Lankan total down. So do I. Let's do this thing.
Right then, the Sri Lanka players are gathering on the outfield, which means we must be close to England's reply. I'll make way for Phil Dawkes...

"There's been a bit of turn for Adil Rashid, so Prasanna will be eyeing that. Maybe he can get some later on."

Arthur Goddard: Magnificent set of 10 from Dilly today. Would like to see him in the Test side.

"We said at Trent Bridge that it didn't feel like Sri Lanka had enough, but that turned into a very exciting finish."

Francis Edwards: "Feel like this is a very average score, but this is England so we have to take collapses galore into consideration."
And Sri Lanka needed a stand of 63 between Upul Tharanga and Suraj Randiv to get them to 254-7. Enough? Probably not, but don't forget England's top-order collapse in the first ODI.
Adil Rashid, excellent once more, made the crucial breakthrough and England backed him up with some excellent fielding...
But were halted by Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews...
England had the better of the first hour...

"I like the way Eoin Morgan is going about things as captain, the way he's settled in. He looks cool and calm. It's a very good time for English cricket. They seem to have all the bases covered."

On Test Match Special during the interval you can hear from Durham's Scott Borthwick, who could be in line for a recall to the England side, especially after Nick Compton's decision to take a break from cricket.
England spinner Adil Rashid speaking to Sky Sports: "There was a bit in there. I thought as a team we bowled exceptionally well. We adapted to the conditions and kept them down. We built pressure and we knew if we kept doing that we would get wickets.
"On certain days you stick to the basics. The batsman are not getting on top of you. I feel good. I felt nice in the last game and today as well.
"We are happy chasing 250 on that pitch."
Phil Tufnell
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"The odd one from Rashid spun, but nothing much there. In fact perhaps it was a bit slower than we expected. England will be delighted with that. But if the Sri Lanka bowlers do as well as they did last night - get a few early wickets - it could be interesting."
Jonathan Agnew

"It does look pretty good out there. We haven't seen the ball doing anything."
