Maharoof is back as Sri Lanka desperately hunt the wicket they need to get into this England order. He has Roy on his toes with a couple that kick a bit and England almost make a hash of a quick single but other than that there is no drama.

If you've got reasonable confidence in England's top order and fancy a quick change of scenery, why not follow our T20 Blast commentary?

There is the mouth-watering prospect of a certain Ben Stokes coming back to competitive action following a knee injury that has kept him sidelined since mid-May, as Durham play Yorkshire.

Also on the menu, Dale Steyn steaming in for Glamorgan for the last time this season - aiming to add to his nine wickets in three games - as they take on Surrey.

Nick. Four. Roy gets away with one as he gets a bit of willow on a Randiv delivery to send it wide of Chandimal and racing away. England have bossed that powerplay. They were four down at this point in the first match.

"Sri Lanka have really got to start thinking about they're going to take some wickets here. It's been an absolutely belting pitch - they were 30, 40 or 50 short with the bat."

  8. Eng 51-0published at 9 overs

When Alex Hales hits it, it stays hit. He times the backside off a back-foot push and the Sri Lankan cover fielder hasn't a prayer of catching it. Hales is 28 from 33 balls. And he's not broken sweat.

Nice, leisurely progress from England. Randiv is worked around for an easy five more runs. Sri Lanka need wickets, England just need to keep doing what they are doing.

"At the moment England are walking it. Perhaps a few extra catchers could have been kept in - something to create a little bit of pressure."

  12. Eng 40-0published at 7 overs

Nuwan Pradeep has had a few days to stew on that last ball that Liam Plunkett dispatched into the stand at Trent Bridge. Now is his chance to hit back and get Sri Lanka back into this game. It is a decent start and could even have picked up a wicket as a nick from an attempted little push to leg just falls short of the diving Chandimal.

Got chatting to Asanka Gurasinha in the first class lounge in Nairobi 6 or 7 years ago. Was rather grumpy about a safari he had just taken in Tanzania – or rather hadn’t, because he didn’t have a visa. Ended up about teaching me a few things about consuming pints before a long international flight…

Suraj Randiv brings some spin to the Sri Lanka attack. He has a slightly awkward action. A bit robotic in the delivery. It serves him well for four balls before Alex Hales decides he's had enough and smites straight for four.

Chance. It is technically a drop from Chandimal as Hales goes back and nicks a rising Maharoof delivery but the keeper can't grasp it. The England opener lobs a load of salt in the wound by then clubbing one through the covers for four.

  19. Eng 20-0published at 4 overs

Lakmal finding some late swing. He has Jason Roy trying an ugly wipe to reach a ball that is called wide by Michael Gough (he's the one without the shield). All it takes a slight veer off line and this England pair are on to it. Roy whips one off his legs to pick up three.

  20. Eng 14-0published at 3 overs

Big shout for lbw. Initially it looks like Alex Hales is in trouble but hot spot shows he is saved by an inside edge. Much better over from Maharoof, who mixes up his pace and length to good effect to secure a rarity - an ODI maiden.
