"They still have 20 overs left. It's not thrash-it time just yet. They have depth in the batting. I wouldn't go throwing wickets away just yet."

  2. SL 162-3published at 24 overs

In comes Angelo Mathews, looking to make sure Sri Lanka don't waste the superb platform they have built for themselves here. No need to do anything rash just yet.

"That's a poor shot. As Rashid delivered the ball, Gunathilaka took a couple of paces outside leg stump and looked to hit it over mid-off. He's got a couple away with it a few times before. The bat turned in his hands. There was no need to play that shot just yet."

    Gunathilaka c Moeen b Rashid 62 (SL 158-3)

Rashid is the man! Gunathilaka tries to loft a drive wide of mid-off but doesn't connect right and sends the ball looping to the outside of the ring where Moeen Ali catches as he runs away from the wicket. Rashid has claimed both of the set men since the resumption.

Chandimal is not here to mess about. He hits the innings' first six with a huge heave to cow corner off Moeen. A mighty blow. The foundations are built for this innings and it allows these two to play with greater freedom than they have had in previous matches.

It's not just the rain that has caused problems, the wind is an issue. To underline this, Rob Bailey loses his hat to a particularly strong gust and it requires an England fielder to rescue it. Nice rhythm now from Rashid, whose sixth over goes for five.

"He gave himself room to hit over extra cover but it got full on him. Once Moeen got a good hand on it he would expect to catch that."

"He's not a bad seven, is he? They might just all shuffle up one or Moeen could open. I like that option.""

    SL 143-2

Hales is gong to bat at seven for England because of the time he has spent off the field. Will Moeen open? He is currently bowling and almost takes another wicket. Gunathilaka strides down and hits one back at the bowler but he can't hold on with one hand on the dive. Tough, but a chance.

"How will Chandimal and Mathews play with the weight off their shoulders? They usually have do to some patch-up work, but now they can play their shots, especially against the spinners."

  13. SL 137-2published at 20 overs

Job done by Rashid. He showed good discipline there after being hit for four. He kept his cool and found the right length to draw the false stroke. Dinesh Chandimal is the new man for Sri Lanka.

"He has come down the wicket, then played something of a sweep. It got full on him and he scewed it off the outside edge. It's a good wicket for England because Sri Lanka were just starting to get away from them."

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.4 overs

    Mendis c Plunkett b Rashid 77 (SL 136-2)

Rashid strikes! Just after Gunathilaka had pummelled him down the ground for four, Mendis also skips down and tries to hammer him to cow corner, but miscues and sends the ball spinning up to be caught by the diving Plunkett at mid-off. Very good wicket to get for England.

  16. SL 131-1published at 19 overs

Moeen finishes off the 19th over. Gunathilaka pokes the ball down the pitch for a single that takes him to 50, off 51 balls. That's his third in ODIs.

Alex Hales is currently off the field, apparently with a back "niggle". Chris Jordan is the sub fielder.
