Sir Ian Botham has just confirmed on Sky that it is spitting. It's spitting! It's spitting! Everybody in!

We are a long way from this but the game has to be under way by 18:15 BST to get in a 20-over game.

I'm not going to lie to you, it is a bit wet down in London (although the Oval looks to be dry at the moment). The forecast is nay good. In fact, rain is expected for pretty much the whole of the afternoon and evening.

While I can't say for sure that we are not going to have a game at the Oval, I'd be prepared for a shortened game at best.

Here is the forecast of doom...

  4. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 29 June 2016

Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews: "I would have had a bowl. Our team is unchanged.

"Tharanga is batting at six and doing a good job for us so we will give the lads a good run and see.

"We need to win this game to stay alive in the series. We need to play our best cricket."

  5. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 29 June 2016

England captain Eoin Morgan: "There's a bit of weather around and the wicket has been under covers for the last 24 hours, so chasing is our option.

"We've got to put in a lot of hard work today."

Since the debacle in Adelaide, England's limited overs side have shown just how far you can go with the correct leadership, a plan, team ethic and talent.

Like a sporting Wizard of Oz, Trevor Bayliss has helped transformed the three lions from cowardly to courageous. They are locking horns with the best, racking up records and coming within a whisker of winning global trophies.

Today, they can seal a series they have so far dominated against Sri Lanka - who just happen to be one of the teams that heaped the humiliation on England during that disastrous World Cup campaign of 2015.

If there is to be any empathy for the England football team this week it may well come from their cricketing counterparts.

After all, they've been there. Just over a year ago in fact, when Bangladesh 'did an Iceland' on them.

But if the footballers (and, more importantly, those that oversee them) want to know how to move on successfully from the shambolic mess that currently engulfs them they could do a lot worse than giving the ECB a call.
