  1. Eng 251-3 (Target 308)published at 34 overs

Jason Roy is back in the boundary game with a superbly-timed pull to leg that sends the ball flying to the rope ahead of a diving fielder. The Sri Lankan bowlers have taken pace off the ball now and it has helped disrupt Roy's timing but that was right out of the middle.

Jonny Bairstow then gets in on the act with a whip off his legs for another four.

A very good and timely over for England.

More good running turns a couple of singles into twos to help England keep up with the run-rate. 70 needed off nine overs. Wickets in hand. Big hitters in and to come. Advantage England.

Eng 231-3 (77 to win off 60 balls)

We've not had a boundary for a few overs now. Not that this is any cause for concern. What will be a worry is if mor wicket continue to fall. Roy takes another risk with a stab down the ground that is dropped by bowler Lakmal.

Ferry and bus from Belfast to Manchester back in the 1970s as a teenager to see Blood Sweat and Tears in concert with the Manchester derby the next day. Saxophonist of the band died that day and the match was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. Highlight of the weekend? Saw Grease in the cinema. Hate that film.

Now, are England going to wobble? They would have been if Roy had not got lucky again twice. First with a lofted shot deep into the offside that falls just short of the man charging in from the rope and then with an edge that is a few yards shy of short third man. Bit of composure required.

Jonny Bairstow is the new man and off the mark with a single.

Wow. Just wow. That is special. Morgan rocks back to cut Lakmal and connects really well. He thinks four. He didn't expect Gunathilaka to dive full length to his right and pluck the ball out the air with one hand. That is right up there with the best of them.

Eoin Morgan is not the biggest hitter but he is a master at finding gaps for runs. It means the scoreboard is never at rest when he is in. The return to Maharoof doesn't work for the tourists.

Flew to Basel for the Europa League final. Terrible performance and result. Spent the night in Zurich airport. Flew back. Got a £50 parking ticket in the station car park. Whole trip cost more than my season ticket renewal.

I was just thinking that England are the only team that can beat England now. Jason Roy nearly starts that process with a mistimed drive off Gunathilaka that sends the ball high into the off side and just safe. You can swallow your heart back to its normal place now Jase.

You have to admire the England fans. Only a few days after Iceland took them to the cleaners in the football, they have stolen their over-head hand clapping celebration. If you can't beat them...
