It is Moeen, he comes trotting down the stairs with Jason Roy. The umpires are already out there, Bruce Oxenford presumably having polished his shield during the break.

I'm hearing that Moeen Ali has been given the nod...

"I think we are going to see a couple of bowlers get targeted. I am not sure this score for Sri Lanka is enough."
Looking at the radar, I think we might be clear of rain for the rest of the day. Sri Lanka are out there warming up. No sign of England's makeshift opener yet.

Drove 4 hours in a minibus to play cricket, bus ran out of petrol 5 minutes from the ground. Whilst waiting for refuelling, skipper got the call to say match abandoned due to weather. Started bus, drove 4 hours home.

"This game is strange. I think the target should have gone up more."

"Sri Lanka scored 80 runs off the last eight overs of the innings. They moved from 250 to 300 in only 27 balls."
The target is adjusted ever so slightly. England will need 308 to win - that's just over sevens. Only a swift turnaround, the players will be back out in 10 minutes. England need a new opener because of Alex Hales' glass back.

"I think that last over from Woakes was pretty decent. He nailed his yorkers. Sri Lanka may have left a few runs out there. They will have wanted 310 or more. And the Sri Lanka bowlers have struggled. The wicket won't offer much for the spinners."
It's a good finish from Woakes, only three singles from the final three balls. Still, Sri Lanka's 305-5 will take some chasing, especially if it's given a little extra mustard. However, it's a good pitch. Should be a good game... if it doesn't rain.
Woakes, black towel tucked into his trousers, rightly feels aggrieved when umpire Rob Bailey calls wide for one that was inside the lines. Mathews, knowing the wide-yorker plan, dances to crash through cover for four.

I travelled to see Norwich vs Fulham 2005 - last game of the season, chance of staying up, hopeful, lost 6-0.
Owen (still mournful)
He doesn't just move pianos, he plays them too. From brawn to brains, scooping over his head for four, then a whip to deep square for another boundary. Clever single to third man keeps the strike. Lanka on the charge.

"Mathews is hitting the ball now. He is moving around in the crease an awful lot. It must be really frustrating to bowl to."
SL 286-5
Liam Plunkett returns for one over, long side to the leg, wide of the crease and angling in to encourage the batsman to hit that way. Mathews, wise to the plan, shows wrists of steel to somehow hit a leg-stump yorker staight for four. 50 for the skipper.

Si Lomas: Travelled to Staines to watch Stockport County in FA Cup replay, called off at 7.40pm, went back 2 days later lost on penalties.
Woakes persists with the yorker plan as the floodlights really start to take effect in gloomy London. It's better, with Mathews moving around in his crease in a bid to befuddle the bowler. Good comeback from the bowler.

"Those were two gifts. Well put away by Shanaka. But the second was wide and there to put your arms through it."
Sri Lanka are like a blindfolded boxer - swinging at everything. Shanaka gets some luck with an inside edge to the fine leg boundary, but there's no fortune about a flay to deep point. Woakes the victim.
