So three games ended in draws - rather than the exciting finishes that seemed a possibility at one stage.

But the title race in Division One remains close with Lancashire and Yorkshire locked together on 99 points - the Red Rose county staying on top by virtue of having won one more game.

Durham are only four points behind, while in Division Two, Derbyshire climb off the bottom to seventh place by virtue of their draw against Worcestershire, who are still fifth.

Ed Barnard (73) and Joe Clarke (64) provided the bulk of the runs in a 146-run partnership, but Alexei Kervezee and Tom Kohler-Cadmore also batted solidly to use up time during the final day. Ben Cotton has the best second-innings figures for Derbyshire of 2-34.

Only one extra over is bowled, allowing Tim Bresnan to collect six runs off Graham Onions to finish on 27 not out, with Jack Leaning unbeaten on 22. Their unbroken stand was worth 59 from 25.4 overs, hardly compelling viewing, but important for Yorkshire, who maintain their unbeaten record.

The White Rose county never really looked like chasing down a target of 357 once openers Alex Lees (74) and Adam Lyth (50) were separated with the score on 112 - but the day belongs to Durham's Keaton Jennings, who completed a maiden double century during the morning and finished 221 not out.

Tim Bresnan and Jack Leaning post a half-century stand for Yorkshire where the minimum overs required in the day have been bowled, but there are still a few minutes of match-time remaining. Going through the motions at the Riverside.

Middlesex have announced that England batsman Nick Compton has been given "a period of time away from cricket". Compton had a disappointing time in the recent Tests against Sri Lanka, prompting fresh speculation that he may lose his place for the forthcoming series against Pakistan.

"We all believe that some time away from the game now will allow him to refresh, recharge and return to play the sort of cricket we all know he is capable of producing," said the county's managing director Angus Fraser.

The teams shake hands on a draw at Old Trafford, with Ian Bell 55 not out and Jonathan Trott on 50 after an unbroken stand of 111 for Warwickshire. 

They take 10 points from the game, with 11 for Lancashire, but will that be enough to keep the Red Rose county at the top of the Division One table? That will depend on events at Chester-le-Street.

Despite being unable to force a victory, it has been an encouraging day for Lancashire, with Haseeb Hameed making a maiden first-class century and Liam Livingstone also reaching three figures.

Worcestershire have seen off the new ball and appear likely to hang on for a draw with just 10 overs remaining - although they are still 33 runs behind. Tom Kohler-Cadmore has curbed his natural aggression to make 43 from 122 balls so far, with Ross Whiteley on seven at the other end.

Ian Bell hits two fours in an over from Arron Lilley to reach a half-century off 164 balls. His partnership with Jonathan Trott (43*) is now worth 96 and the end of the match can't be far off.

Yorkshire are now in full defensive mode as the game enters the final 16 overs with Tim Bresnan four not out and Jack Leaning on eight. There will be no new ball to boost Durham's chances, so seamers Graham Onions and Barry McCarthy are plugging away with the old one as Mark Stoneman rotates his attack in search of another breakthrough.

It literally has been a very damp squib on day two at Arundel with just 29.1 overs of play possible because of rain. Northants added 99 runs in that time for the loss of Ben Duckett, who was caught off Ajmal Shahzad for 72. 

The will begin the third day just 36 runs in arrears with skipper Alex Wakely unbeaten on 46 and Rob Keogh 10 not out.

Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott are using all their international experience to keep Lancashire's young spinners at bay. Bell has 31 and Trott 33, having added 65 in 30 overs, and it looks increasingly like they have steered their side into calm waters. The target - now purely nominal - is 163 from 11 overs.

The new ball does the trick for Derbyshire as Ben Cotton has Alexei Kervezee caught behind for 41, ending with a stand of 64 with Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Ross Whiteley is the new batsman, with Worcestershire still 60 behind and 20 plus overs to survive. 

Meanwhile.....Middlesex have announced that New Zealand pace bowler Mitch McClenaghan will play no further part in their T20 Blast campaign because he has a stress fracture of his pelvis.

He needs at least six weeks of rest and managing director Angus Fraser admitted: "Finding a replacement of similar quality at such short notice is proving extremely difficult. A number of international tours are scheduled in July and August and the Caribbean Premier League is about to start."

It's a similar story at Old Trafford where Warwickshire need 188 from 23 overs - a rate of more than eight an over. Young spinner Matt Parkinson continues to plug away despite conceding two successive fours to Jonathan Trott, who is 20 not out, with Ian Bell on 22. A draw is starting to look like the favourite.   

It's getting to be a tall order for Yorkshire, who need another 191 from 30 overs - a rate of 6.37 per over. Spinners Ryan Pringle and Scott Borthwick are now bowling in tandem and the last two overs have been maidens.

Derbyshire are looking to the new ball, which is only three overs away, as Alexei Kervezee (38*) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (25*) continue Worcestershire's resistance at the County Ground. They have added 60 in 19 overs, with the visitors now 64 behind, having followed on.
